On Sunday, May 7 the ' Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of the 2nd Scugog Scout Group were busy improving on the garden started in 1994 by the 2nd Scugog Cubs. The 32 foot cedar hedge was part of Scouts : Canada's 2000 Scoutrees pro- ' gram. Parents, as well as youth job in planting. N NV31D JAI] © © The Scugog Shoreline Millennium Committee will be hosting a Lake Scugog Stewardship Workshop next week- end at the Township's Council Chambers, beginning at 9:30-a.m. on May 27. The workshop, which is sponsored in part by The Durham Land Stewardship Council, will be a day-long education session on the shoreline and wetland, and what can be done to help preserve and protect them. The day will begin with a slide-show on local shoreline and wetland areas that give life to Lake Scugog by James Kamstra, an area naturalist, environmental consultant and nature photographer. Following his slide presentation, Mr. Kamstra will lead the group on a shoreline walkabout to tour the shoreline and native plants. Lunch will be provided at noon, and at | p.m. Federation of Ontario Cottager's Associations representa- Lake stewards invited to workshop tive Mandy Wilkens will discuss what other lakeside own- ers throughout Ontario are doing to protect their shore- lines and natural property values. At 2 p.m., local experts will be on hand to go over and discuss with you your lot plans and opportunities to cre- ate a practical and ecologically friendly shoreline for your property. Review and approval requirements from the Trent- Severn Waterway for shoreline alterations will be avail- able as hand-outs. A question-and-answer period will be held at 3 p.m., and door-prizes will be drawn. The cost for the day session is $20, which includes lunch. The remainder of the funds will be used for further shoreline education. Anyone interested is encouraged to register now at the Township Offices at 208 North St. in Port Perry.
