The 17 member squad finished second overall in the boys division, once again behind the 54 member team from Renfrew. The local team did, however, open many eyes at the meet as 14 of its 17 members graced the podium as medal winners. They were also pleased that they topped their arch rivals, the RAW team from Brampton. The two day tournament entertained over 300 boys by Roxanne Reveler and girls roth Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes and was a great way for the athletes to finish their sea- son and begin a summer schedule which will include a trip to the Ohio State Fair. Legion Annual Meeting All members of Branch 152 of the legion are asked to attend Sunday's annual general meeting, May 14. There will be an election of officers for the forthcoming year and new blood is always welcome. Season Finale May 20 marks the season finale of the Vital Spark Folk Society, which has given a number of perfor- mances in Brooklin, gar- nering many fans. It should be the highlight of the season so plan to attend. Hmmm During one of my friend's adult writing class- es, she was asked by a stu- dent what the word "oxy- moron" meant. Rather than answer the question herself, she put it tothe class and had to laugh when the for instance started coming back to the word that means a con- tradiction in terms. Up 0.3 per cent to $180,881 Ted McCracken, presi- dent of the Durham Region Real Estate Board reports that average prices of residential homes in Durham Region increased slightly this month by .3 per cent to $180,881 from $180,411 recorded in March of this year. This is also a 5.9 per cent increase over $170,851 average price recorded in April 1999. The other good news is the increased number of active listings. There Average home price rises slightly in March: Real Estate Board were 1,776 listings in April up 6.8 per cent from 1,662 recorded in March. Sales of single-family homes came in at 786, down 5.9 per cent from March's high of 835 and also down 5 per cent from 827 total sales recorded in April of 1999. Homes in Durham Region spent an average 30 days on the market and produced a 98 per cent list to sale ratio, indicating the best market in the GTA.
