However, the Uxbridge Fall Fair is coming and its a good idea to begin preparing your entries for the fair now. The 136th Uxbridge Fall Fair will be held Sept. 10 to 12 in Elgin Park on Main Street in Uxbridge. Pick up your copy of the program for the fair at our booth at the Uxbridge Trade show May 4 to 6. Programs are also available at the Uxbridge Public Library or the township office beginning the week of May 8. Our theme this year is "time." You can enter your specimens in the flowers and decorative sections. If you like to think big, you can have an extraordi- nary summer growing the heaviest organically grown carrot for the extraordinary vegetable section. ("Organically grown means grown from untreated seeds, without synthesized fertilizers or pesticides during the current growing season). Remember, deep and thorough cultivating are cru- cial steps before planting the giant carrot seeds. One local gardener says that a good feed of manure tea and top dressing of compost once a week helps her grow the big ones. What's new at the fair? Sponsored by Siloam Orchards, the maple syrup makers competition offers valuable gift certificates for prize winning maple syrup entries. Judging will be based on density, flavour, colour and clarity. Entries must be submitted in clean, unused glass containers. Also new, a honey category. (Fall '99 specimens of dark will be eligible).
