The plan is the culmi- nation of a year of work by a committee consisting of 16 people representing all types of trail users, includ- ing the Uxbridge Conservation Association, the Oak Ridges Trail Association, the Uxbridge Horsemen's Association, the Uxbridge Cycling Club and the Heart of Ontario Snowmobile Club. The committee looked at a variety of route possi- bilities, and has selected an-interim route which will be in place by late August, when the trans-Canada Durham relay will pass through "Uxbridge. The relay will see 5,000 carriers bring water from the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans along the trail routes to the Trans Canada Fountain in Ottawa. The plan will be pre- sented to Uxbridge council April 10. The report of the committee is available for public review at the Uxbridge Public Library, and the Uxbridge Township Office. We hope that this will inspire the cre- ation of additional trails in Uxbridge Township and promote more conserva- tion of natural areas." The Uxbridge section of the Trans Canada Trail will be about 20 km long. The trail enters the township from the northeast via the abandoned railway right- of-way from Lindsay and Peterborough. Before reaching Main St, the trail will turn south along the top of bank of the Uxbridge Creek valley and through a future neighbourhood park to connect with Second Avenue. The route then follows Dominion St. west until it crosses Main. It exits the park south along Pond St., then east along Mill St. The trail then turns south along Water St., where it enters Elgin Park. After passing through the park, it turns south and exits urban area along Main St. to Brookdale Rd. The. trail follows Brookdale Road east and then south to Foxfire Estate. The trail then con- tinues south a short dis- tance along an unopened road allowance until it reaches Concession Road 8. It follows this quiet unpaved road south until it turns west onto Reid Rd. The trail takes Reid Rd. west for one concession and then turns south again onto the shoulder of the 7th-Concession. It follows along the 7th for a short distance where it crosses Regional Rd. 21. The trail then follows the east shoul- der of the 7th Concession to the Durham Regional Forest. It then winds east and south through the for- est until it connects with the Oak Ridges Trail Association (ORTA) trail.
