While a final tally on Monday evening's funds have yet to be announced, chair Marion Lee is already calling the fundraiser the most success- ful ever. "It was a fantastic evening, We, had a _ J full house of 172 people and 'each and everyone of them helped out. I was really delighted by their generosity... this was the best ever yet," she said. The fundraiser was held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Port Perry, where guests enjoyed a great meal and then participated in both a live and silent auction. Items were donated by local businesses, and all proceeds will be handed over to the Easter Seals Kids program. Approximately half of the money will be designated to help disabled chil- dren in Durham Region, while the remainder will be distributed else- where in the province. Snowarama originated as an annual snowmobile ride which saw participants raise pledges. But poor riding condi- tions and a lack of interest forced orga- nizers to change the format to a dinner and auction, which has proven to be very successful over the past three years.
