eat a ---------- Wa R - PORT PERRY "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2000 - eps oe Recommendations will shape country government Restructuring Committee set to release its report On Monday, Feb. 7 at 10 am. in the Armouries in Lindsay, The Victoria County Restructuring Commission will be releas- ing its study entitled "Options for a Governing Structure" for Victoria County. This study will evaluate three options that have been advanced by local politicians; citizens, and the business community, as being possible govern- ing structures for Victoria County. The first option includes a two-tier system, similar to the current struc- ture where there is a coun-. ty level of government plus 16 townships, villages and the Town of Lindsay. The second option elimi- nates all existing munici- pal governments and replaces them with a sin- gle-tier level of govern- ment for the entire county. The third option elimi- nates all existing munici- pal governments and replaces them with three single-tiers -- one for the north, one for the south excluding Lindsay and Ops Township (or part of Ops Township), and one that includes Lindsay and Ops Township (or part of Ops Township). The report is intended to solicit public response and input, an important ingredient in assisting the commission in reaching its decision on the preferred option. The commission's final or preferred option will be published in a report that will be released at a press conference during the last week of March 2000. As of Feb. 7, copies of the report "Options for a Governing Structure" will be available for inspection by the public in each municipal office, as well as in the clerk's office at the County of Victoria and in all local libraries.
