"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 11, 2001 - 1 Cartwright Unplugged comes to Nestleton By Rik Davie Port Perry Star Drag out your guitars, fiddles, banjos and any other instrument you have and get ready for a good old-fashioned jam session at the Nestleton Community Hall next week. The fun will begin Sunday (Sept. 16) at 2 p.m. with the start of Cartwright Unplugged, an informal and innovative way to bring together musicians of all ages and back- grounds for a sharing of musical talent and style. There will be no ampli- fication of instruments and microphones are for voice only. Percussion is being held to a minimum, so if you have a snare and brushes, or what the heck, a wash board, come on out. The goal is to encourage amateur musicians, com- munity friendships and bring together musicians. Who knows... bands and music groups could be born from such an event. The organizers, Paul Watson and family, hope to John Watson, his wife Karen and their children Paul 2 and Kelli are looking to start Cartwright Unplugged, a jam session for local musicians. carry on the sessions on the third Sunday of each month through till next june. "This is not a talent con- test," Mr. Watson stressed. "This is a way to bring musicians of all ages and levels of accomplishment together to share ideas and a common love of music. There is no particu- lar style of music, we want to hear everything at these sessions." The doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the session con- tinues until 5 p.m. with a $3 admission charge to offset the cost of renting the Nestleton Hall. Xo Be it's open season in 7 | Scugog Township Several reports of shots being fired in the Scugog area last week had police scurrying around looking for answers. After a brief investiga- tion police officials fig- ured out that duck hunt- ing season had opened in the area two weeks earlier than usual, causing resi- dents to report the numerous shotgun blasts. As a result of the early season deer appear to be on the move as well, caus- ing a number of collisions on North Durham road- ways including one near Beaverton recently in which the driver rolled his car trying to avoid a deer. The car was totalled while the driver escaped with minor injuries. Police officials ask that residents be vigilant as fall approaches and deer move in search of winter feeding grounds.
