Frank Lockhart. All enjoyed music by Bruce Gerrow and Nelson Reader with Carol Edgar on the organ. Next Sunday hopefully will be outside. Sunday, July 22 "Just Friends" will supply the music. Please keep in mind the chicken barbecue on Aug. 19 sponsored by the Committee of Stewards. Vacation Bible School meeting at the Scugog Island United Church will be july 17 at 7 p.m. Recently Cam and Joan Aldred enjoyed a few days at Kingston and viewed the "Tall Ships," toured this historic city and enjoyed the cruise ship. They also had a visit with their granddaughter Robin Adderley McKay. Ann Chillingworth and Glen Wilson have both had surgery recently. Sympathy is extended to Mr. Norm Watson in the loss of his wife recently. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Sergio Galanti on their 50th wedding anniversary held Saturday evening at the Mississaugas of Scugog Island Health/Resource Centre. Many relatives, friends and neighbours attended this happy event. An invitation is extended by the Stowell-Smith family to attend an open house at the Island Hall on Saturday, July 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. as a thank you ~ for all the kindness expressed to Brenda in so many ways after her experience with that electrical storm 50th anniversary CHRIS HALL / PORT PERRY STAR Bill and Marion Taylor marked their 50th wedding anniversary recently when friends and family hosted a special celebration for them at the Canterbury Common centre on June 30. The couple were married at St. Andrew's East Church in Glasgow, Scotland on June 30, 1951. The Taylors have two children -- Patricia and Alistair -- and four grandchildren. He delivered a most interesting message on the work of the Gideons who are spreading God's Word through out 162 countries. On average, they gave away 900 New Testaments a day and hundreds of tracts held at the International Ploughing Match in Elora last year. Dave Linderman favoured us with a beauti- ful solo "Refine Me," written by Jennifer Knapp, composer/singer. We were also pleased to wel- come Alan's wife and mother Florence Fennell from Cannington. Some of our women in the con- gregation have known Florence for some time being connected with the Women's Missionary Society. Next Sunday, July 15, once again Katherine McCloskey will be with us. Everyone is welcome to join us each Sunday at 10 a.m. We were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of an Ashburn resident, Daniel Pokochy who passed away at his home last Wednesday. He is the son-in-law of Jim and Mary Housego of Myrtle. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife and two daughters Kim and Leah, and also to Jim and Mary and other family members and relatives. Van Camp returned home on Tuesday from a trip to British Columbia where he visited his daughter Marie and Bob Attfield and boys at Richmond. He attended the high school * «graduation exercises of his grand- son Jamie Attfield. Congratulations Jamie. The 26th annual Tractor and Truck Pull was a fine success on Friday and Saturday evenings. The weather was perfect on Friday evening but very wet at the beginning of Saturday evening. However it improved and a great pull was held with many competitive classes. The event draws followers from many areas in Southern Ontario as well as the local people. The fair prize lists are now available and can be picked up at the home of secretary Janice Beechey at 94 Greensboro Drive in Blackstock. They are in a bag at the front door whether she is home or not. Pick yours up and plan to be part of the 136th Blackstock Fair on Saturday, Aug. 25. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend, noting the change of date. Dr. John Churchill has returned from England where he was work- ing for some time on the Hoof and Mouth Disease outbreak. Quite a number from here attended the various events at Peterborough Exhibition over the past week. Better health is wished for Harold Timms who like several others in our community is suffer- ing pneumonia. The Beacock family picnic was held on Sunday at the Rec. Centre with approximately 50 members attending. A delicious noon dinner was enjoyed after which much visiting was done. The Uxbridge Chapter of the Sweet Adelines entertained dur- ing the afternoon. On Sunday evening, Glenn and Marion Larmer, Aileen Van Camp, Jean and Merrill Van Camp, Shirley Gibson, Cliff and Lillian Lockyer, Stuart and Helen Dorrell attended the Induction Service at St. Andrews United Church, Millbrook for Rev. Phillip Hobbs. Best wishes are extended to Rev. Phil who is now the minis- ter at Cavan/Millbrook Pastoral Charge. There were 13 tables of euchre on Tuesday evening with the fol- lowing winners: William Dunn with a high of 90, Reid Harness, Wilma Van Camp, Muriel Selby, Audrey Middleton and Edna Manns. Harry Hill had the most lone hands. Lucky draws were won by Joan Sutcliffe, Dorothy Olan, Harold Crawford, Chester Madsen, Doris Manns, Wilma Van Camp. Mrs. Helen Weir has returned home to Brantford after her visit with her sister-in-law Mrs. Andrea Weir.
