The Durham District School Board settled a contract with its teacher groups last week. The new agreement, which will allow enough time for secondary teachers to begin extracurricular activities for the first time blic school teachers, in nearly four years, was signed early last week. By late Friday, the Durham board announced it had reached an agreement with its nearly 3,000 full- and part-time teaching staff. Under the new one- year agreement, teachers in elementary classrooms will see a salary increase of 2.67 per cent effective this September and a 2.3 per cent increase that kicks in on Aug. 31, 2002. a itis a board reach agreement Bill Butcher, president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) said his members are glad of the negotiated settlement.
