Let's hope this time that it doesn't rain. We have quite a number of items on hand, but we could use some baking for the baked goods table. Be sure to come out and give us your support. The mem- bers feel that we have had two years of great achievement here in the village. See you Saturday. We'd also like to thank all those who signed the petition to keep the transfer station open. The Nonquon Well, the 33rd annual Nonquon has gone into the his- tory book as one great success. Last year 101 canoes registered, this year it was 92. | believe that those who had to drive a long distance looked at Saturday morning's weather and decided to forego the outing. The com- mittee is very pleased with the results, but it's too early for a financial report yet. The com- puters and the large wall screen kept everyone up to date on the race times. We should also give credit to our ad sponsors and to those who donated gifts. There were over 50 prizes from which to make a selection. A special thanks to Mayor Doug Moffatt and Ken Gadsden who not only completed the race, but brought in the greatest number of pledges. Caesarea Community Hall Board The euchre results for May 31 are as follows: ladies high score and most lone hands - Sandy Stephenson, mens high score and most lone hands (six) - Mike Tuttle. Euchre will start up again for the fall on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Caesarea Hall, so join us then for lots more fun. Joke of the Week supermarket, a woman surveyed In the produce section of our a large display of lettuce. Reaching for one, she caused a minor avalanche. When | helped her pick up the lettuce, she thanked me and said, "you never know when heads will roll." From our Sick Bay This past week Mrs. Nottingham had surgery and at this writing is in hospital. I have been asked by several about Tom Dean. This past week I was able to speak to Doris and she said that Tom's feet and legs were injured along with the punctured lung, broken ribs and a head injury. Each day he is making favourable progress. It'll be held June 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Greenbank Hall Remember the Greenbank parks auction is coming soon Going once, going twice. Hurry before its gone. The Greenbank Parks Playground Committees Auction 2001 is almost here. Are you ready? This evening is guar- anteed to bring in lots of excite- ment because there is lots of exciting stuff on the auction block. With Neil Bacon as the auc- tioneer, and donations from com- panies such as McDonalds, Toshiba, Volkswagen/Audi, Black and Decker, SwimKids (just to name a few) plus, local residents donating pies, crafts +++ we are sure to have something for every- one. A food bar is also available throughout the evening. So come out and have some fun, meet some neighbours and join the excitement on Friday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. (viewing starts at 5:30 p.m.) at the Greenbank Hall. This is a fundraising event, therefore cash and cheque are the only form of payment accept- ed. Carlie Till and Emily Jones greeted and welcomed everyone to the Greenbank Sunday School Anniversary. Brian Jones, superin- tendent was leader with Janice Lee, presenting the Assembly Time. Their theme was a demon- stration of the songs, skits, and games for a day at Sunday School. There will not be any church service or Sunday School at Greenbank next Sunday, June 10, as it is the Pinedale Sunday School Anniversary Service at || a.m. The Greenbank Young Adults car wash will be Saturday, June 9 at the church from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $5 for a car and $6 for a truck. Come support the G.Y.A. Fidelis Unit U.C.W. will meet on Wednesday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the church. The euchre at Greenbank is planned for Friday, June 8 at 8 p.m. CHS concert band By Joyce Kelly Blackstock News Our community was saddened to learn of the passing of Ethel Mackie last Saturday from compli- cations following a broken hip. Ethel was a long time nurse at Port Perry hospital from where she has been retired for a number of years. On Sunday, her husband, Douglas along with their family held a day of Celebration of Ethel's life at their home. A long time elementary school teacher of Cartwright Schools, Grant Campbell passed away last week. His funeral was on Friday. Sympathy to his family and many friends. A former student of Cartwright High School, David Kett, 24-years- of-age and presently a resident of Whitby, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on the East Quarterline - over the weekend. Congratulations to the Cartwright High School Band which received a silver medal at MusicFest Canada in Ottawa recently. The band felt they had played their absolute best but at the national level, gold is very dif- ficult to achieve. While in Ottawa, the band toured the museums, the old market and Parliament Hill. On June 12 the Senior Band will be performing in concert, both instrumental and vocal numbers at the Blackstock United Church at 7:30 p.m. This is a farewell concert for the senior members who are graduating. Admission is free but a collection will be taken with all proceeds donated to Foodgrains Canada. There will be a reception following the concert. Traditionally, this has been the finest concert of the year for the senior group. Everyone is welcome to attend. The annual Seniors' Spring Tea will be held on Thursday, June 14. Seniors are asked to call the school to reserve a spot. Doreen Van Camp returned home last Monday from an enjoyable holiday in Bermuda where she visited her niece Jill and Mike Davidson and did some touring of this interest- ing island. Elaine Kelly returned home from an exciting holiday in Greece and Egypt where she did much sightseeing. While in southern Egypt, the temperatures went over 50 degrees C. an experience in itself. All are welcome (men and women) to the special presenta- tion on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the W.I. meeting when the Durham Region Health Unit will teach about Safety in the Home, espe- cially for seniors. This will take place at the United Church "Blue Room." If possible, try to attend. Last Wednesday, Faith Holwynof, Bowmanville, sister of Rev. Phil Hobbs, spoke to the Blackstock United Church Women and guests about her work in Columbia, South America. Her work experience as a psychiatric nurse was helpful in the Latin American Mission. This area has suffered from recent earthquakes and political unrest that leaves many homeless, impoverished families. The medical centre needs equipment and supplies. Faith will be returning to Columbia to assist in work there and to establish a medical clinic. Muriel Wotten led in a very meaningful worship service. The meeting concluded with a time of refreshments and fellowship where many had an opportunity to talk with our speaker. On Saturday, june 16 from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be a yard and bake sale at the church to help raise money to support Faith in her medical and mission work. Donations are welcome for either the yard or bake sale. Mark your calendar for the United Church Strawberry Supper which will be held at the Rec. Centre on Sunday, June 24. Next Sunday there will be a joint Sunday School Anniversary with Blackstock and Nestleton Sunday Schools with Rev. Michael Bishop the guest speaker. Following church everyone is invit- ed to Stephen and Deanna picks up another top honour Grove's home for a barbecue. Bring lawn chairs, plates, cutlery and either a dessert or salad. You are invited to dress casually - jeans for Jesus Sunday - and bring a spe- cial offering of a toonie for M&S. Please note service time will be 10 a.m. At the moming service, Brian Martyn, Matthew Morrison and Michael Van Camp were welcomed into full membership of Blackstock United Church by Renewal of Baptismal Faith. The sacrament of Communion was conducted by Rev. Phil Hobbs. Many from here attended vari- ous sections of the Brooklin Spring Fair over the weekend. There were 16 tables at the Tuesday evening card party with the following winners: Clara Warren who also had the most lone hands, Audrey Cross, Doris Manns, Verna Draper, Bonnie Davies, and Eileen- Owens. Lucky draws were won by Marj Davies (two), Vera Draper, Clara Warrend, Gary Notenboom and Betty Kervan.
