"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 8, 2001 - 9 Hudson is honoured by Lions By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Former Blackstock Lions Club President Ken Hudson has been pre- sented with one of the service organization's highest honours. During a recent Lions convention in Newmarket, Mr. Hudson was presented with an award marking his meri- torious service to the club. It was presented during a ceremony which included Lions' Governor Raguhbir Singh. A member with the club for the past eight years, Mr. Hudson has been involved with the Lions in a variety of ways, assisting with events and holding the position of president for two years. He now serves as mem- bership chairman. Mr. Hudson, a retired Durham Regional Police officer, was introduced to the club by his son Chris, who now holds the posi- tion of vice-president. "My son Chris intro- duced me to it a few years ago, and then he left before coming back again when I introduced him back into the club," said Mr. Hudson. "I knew a lot of the members before coming into the club, so 1 was familiar with the guys and what the Lions did." Diabetes group hosts speaker The Uxbridge Diabetes Association is pleased to present Dr. lan Blumer, renowned diabetes specialist. Dr. Blumer will be presenting an informa- tive overview of dia- betes management. Specifically he will address the need for persons with diabetes to be aggressive in their personal management. He will outline three to five crucial areas of dia- betes management and explain why they are so important. There will be a ques- tion and answer session following Dr. Blumer's presentation. A world-renowned conservationist, Dr. Rapley will present a behind the scenes look at the zoo and conservation in general.
