If you are interested in our village you should be there. Euchre is this Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the hall. Scugog Point Association They planned a great day Saturday for the kids in the area, but were forced to cancel because of weather conditions. They said let's make it Sunday, but the winds didn't relent, so they cancelled again. | called Bruce Aikens and he said it could be March 3, weather permitting. We here in Caesarea were planning on having a day of events ourselves, but the change in weather makes it impossible to plan a specific date and get the rink in shape. Blackstock and District Lions At our meeting last Wednesday, Lion Archie Walker put forth the idea of having a carp derby on the lake. This would be with bow and arrow. The plan is for this spring, but every- thing is just in infancy now. Watch this col- umn for the prize money being offered. If it's a go, you can be sure we'll be adver- tising. Archie says that while bass, muskie, and pickerel spawn once a year, carp spawn five to six times a year. The Lions had a great evening at St. John's Anglican Church last Tuesday evening when they hosted the annual Effective Speaking Contest which saw 24 entrants from Cartwright Public School. In the Junior Division, Matthew Lowe won with his speech on Twins. Runners-up were Rachel Beechey and Neva Lyn-Kew who tied. In the International Division, the winner was Sarah Gatchell who spoke on being short. Her runner-up was Erin Lang. Our hearti- est congratulations to all who participat- ed, as you made a great night to remem- ber. The winners will advance to district level competition. Lake Scugog Historical Society At the meeting last Thursday night .we ran through the usual reports from each board. The most important item at the present time is the annual meeting to be held March 29 at the Masonic Hall in Port Perry. The friendship hour is 6 to 7 p.m. followed by dinner and a short business meeting and election of officers. Next on the agenda is a historical talk by Peter Hvidsten of Port Perry. To cover the cost, tickets are $20 per person. For more information call Susan Dutton at 985-1689. At the present time the museum board along with members of "the Historical Society are reviewing appli- cations for the new curator.
