Legion Peewees preparing for a deep playoff run The Port Perry Legion Peewee A boys team has had a very impressive year thus far. Our record stands at 14 wins, three losses and four ties. We are in about third/fourth place in the Lakeshore standings. Jake Jones, our team captain this year, with Tyler Cunningham, Scott Martin and Tyler Daly as assistants have shown an exemplary job of lead- ing our team. Also, the Peewee A boys have won two out of the three tournaments that they have participated in including our own win over the Scarborough Sabres 4-3. To win the Peterborough Tournament A final, we played against Woodville and beat them in overtime 3-2 with a goal by Dave Stewart. This game was also a penalty free game. Congratulations boys. Not only has the team played well, 'but they have had an enjoyable, energetic and dedicated season by all the boys, coaching staff and par- ents. We have four more games left before playoffs start. McClelland Port Perry Star There was a time not too long ago that the Port Perry MoJacks were easy pickins' for a team like the Lakefield Chiefs... but not any more. The vastly improved MoJacks are proving they can stay with any team in the Central Junior C Hockey League. As a case in point, they just completed a six-game winning streak and in the past week, took three of four points from the first place Chiefs, thanks to a 6-4 win in Lakefield Jan. 2 and a 4-3 loss in overtime Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, in a game the green and white very easily could have won. "With efforts like that, we're going to win our share of hockey games," said assistant coach Neil Evans after Sunday's game. Evans was pleased with the kind of effort from all members of the squad. While he obviously would have preferred to see a "W" on the sheet, he noted that "any time you can take a point from Lakefield, it's a positive thing." The single point for the loss in OT to the Chiefs gives MoJacks a total of 27 and keep them seven in front of Little Britain for the final playoff berth, although the Merchants retain several games in hand. Sunday's game was a highly entertaining affair that featured some superb netminding from lan Watson and his counterpart Ryan Hogan of the Chiefs. The MoJacks went up 3-2 early in the third period on a goal from Shane Norton, who took a pass in the slot from Darren Forbes and beat Hogan with a rising shot to the stick side. It appeared as if that might stand up until David Lloyd tied things up with under five minutes to play in regulation. He got around the MoJack defense and beat Watson with a shot over Watson's shoulder. ~The MoJacks were short-handed for 1:36 of the OT period and although they were able to kill that penalty off, they were feeling the affects of the Chief power play when Craig Meredith got the game winner off a big scramble around the MoJack cage. In the first period, Jeff Ashton got the lone goal for the Mo)acks off a pass from Chris Skerratt. Lloyd and Meredith replied for the visitors.
