On Sunday, Oct. 22 they travelled to Cobourg to face the Cougars. Cobourg opened the scoring near the end of the first period and added another in the second. Being down by two goals was not going to stop the Predators, they stepped it up and came back with a goal of their own. Vanessa Wilde put it in after great checking from Hailey Fontyn and Laura Brown to get it down the ice, and an assist from Jessica Joncas. The last five minutes of the game became the time for the dramatic comeback. After a spectacular save on a breakaway from our goalie Courtney Pelow, the defensive play of Morgan Barr and Caitlin Daly helped to keep the puck out of our end and into Cougar territory. The offensive play of Shawna MacMaster and Stefanie Thomson kept the pressure on. With just under three minutes to go in the game, Jessica Joncas scored to tie the game at two. The rush was set up after some great backchecking from Nicole Wise and Brittny O'Connor. On Wednesday, Oct. 25 the girls were on the road again to face a very strong squad in the Clarington Flames. Our shortened bench of eight skaters did a great job. Clarington opened the scoring in the first period and added one more very early in the second. After this the Predators put up the wall, starting with the goaltending of Courtney Pelow and the defensive play of Hailey Fontyn, Morgan Barr and Jaimie-Lynn Adam. The forwards Jessica Joncas, Stefanie Thomson, Laura Brown, Nicole Wise, and Shawna MacMaster were good at forechecking and pass- ing the puck but were turned away by a very effective defensive squad. On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Predators played host to the Cold Creek Comets. Port opened the scoring in the first on a goal by Jessica Joncas on a great pass from Stefanie Thomson. Jessica found the net again with the assist going to Vanessa Wilde, after some important defensive play from Hailey Fontyn and Morgan Barr. Cold Creek was able to find their way to the net and scored early in the second peri- od, after which Courtney Pelow shut the door and denied all challengers. Port answered back very quickly with a goal of their own. Vanessa Wilde put one behind the goaltender after Jamie-Lynn Adam and Caitlin Daly kept the Cold Creek attackers at bay and got the puck out of their end. Shawna MacMaster, Laura Brown and Nicole Wise kept the pressure on and were strong forecheckers. McClelland Port Perry Star The Port Perry MoJacks snapped a long losing streak Sunday night at the Scugog Arena when they downed Bobcaygeon Bullets by a 5-3 score. The win broke off a five game losing skid as cap- tain Shane Norton fired a hat trick to lead the MoJacks on the score sheet. MoJacks jumped to a 3- 0 first period lead against the Bullets. The teams then played through a scoreless middle frame. Bullets scored three in the final 20 minutes, but MoJacks added two of their own to secure the 5-3 victory. In firing his first hat trick of the Junior C season, Norton wasn't fussy about what kind of manpower sit- uation was on the ice at the time as he collected a goal at even strength, while killing a penalty and on the power play. Other marksmen for the green and white in this one were Andrew Mercer and Kevin Harding. Matt McMaster chipped in with a couple of assists. For the visitors, Matt Fairfield, Andrew Pollock and Josh Shaw got the goals. Scott Poole was between the pipes for the MoJacks to get the victory, and was especially sharp in the first two frames as he held the Bullets off the score sheet. Two of the MoJack goals came on the power play and one short-handed, while the Bullets scored one with a man short. MoJacks penalty killers were up for the task in this one as they prevented the Bullet power play from scoring. Penalties were almost even through this game with the MoJacks getting called for nine minors and the visitors for eight On Friday night, the MoJacks paid a visit to the Uxbridge Arena and learned why the Bruins are power-house teams in the Central Junior C League this season. The Bruins romped through this one to the tune of 8-3. MoJacks put up a spirited showing through the first 20 minutes by just a single goal (3-2) but the powerful Bruins turned things up a notch of two to out-score Mojacks 3-1 in the middle frame and 2-0 in the final. Ryan McQuade and Jason Whitworth (both Port Perry natives) scored for the green and white in the first stanza, with defense- man Darren Forbes firing a power play goal late in the second. Whitworth and McQuade each had one assist, while Norton had a pair of helpers and Chris Skerratt had one as well. For the home team Bruins, three players did much of the scoring dam- age as captain Al Racette, Warren Cooper and Brett Jennings got two goals each. Cooper also had two helpers for a four point night. In the early going of this new hockey season, the Bruins appear to be "one of the teams to beat." They have handled the MoJacks with ease in the two outings to date by scores of 14-3 and 8-3 and have a big jump on the Scugog-Uxbridge Mayors Challenge Cup which will be awarded to the team with the most wins in the eight meetings between the two clubs over the course of the season. Getting back in the win column should give the MoJacks a bit of a lift after five straight losses. And they have two important games (even at this stage of the campaign all games are taking on new impor- tance for the green and white) coming up this weekend. They travel to Bobcaygeon on Saturday evening, and then host Georgina Ice Sunday night at the Scugog Arena fora 7 I ss eee, Sunys OPEN 24 HONIG HOME TEAM...BE THERE FOR THE WIN! emerging as one of the p.m. start.
