2 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 17, 2000 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" It's about time everyone MUNICIPAL VOTE 2000 ourhay,, had a well made car! LS VAS | \'A 2000 SEPHIAS LEFT 0% FINANCING FOR 48 MONTHS By Chris Hall Port Perry Star Paul Michel will make a second bid for a seat at the Scugog Council table when the municipal election is held Nov. 13. A resident of Coulter St, near the Canterbury Common subdivision just north of town, Mr. Michel is one of five candidates vying for the Ward 5 seat in next month's election. He filed his nomi- nation papers late last Friday (Oct. 13), the last day for candidates to sign up. Along with his wife Sandy, Mr. Michel has been a business owner in Scugog for the past 14 years. He currently operates Dynamic Car Wash on Vanedward Dr. A long-term resident of the township, he hopes to use his extensive knowledge of the area, as well as his business sense, to the best advantage of the residents in the north Port Perry area. "I'm really interested in the community and I've been very actively involved with- in it," he said yesterday. "This is always t something I've wanted to do, and the tim- S ing is good." In 1991, Mr. Michel made a run for the Ward 2 seat, but was defeated. While respectful of those already sit- ting at the council table, the 34-year-old hopeful says it's time for new people to step up and take part in local politics. "It's time council moves on to the next generation," he said. "The end is near for some - Doug Moffatt has said he won't run 2001 SEPHIAS from $13,845 HUG Inventory of 20071' 2001SPORTAGES from $20,995 Ex passion underway need voout! "I really enjoy municipal poli- tics, and 1 think this is a good opportunity." As for amalgama- "tion, Mr. Michel notes he likes Michel things the way they are: but if the provincial government legislates changes, the township needs to be prepared. "We have to get the best deal for Scugog; it doesn't matter if it's with the north or south, we have to look at the pros and cons and, bottom line, we have to do what's best for Scugog," said Mr. Michel. He is also in favour of a second ice pad and a new pool, as long as they don't com- pete with existing businesses and are not funded by the taxpayers. A Port Perry High School graduate, Mr. Michel has been involved with the Scugog Chamber of Commerce for the past nine years, and is a former director. He is also an active volunteer within the community and across Durham Region.
