Great summer for lawn bowling club By Norm Caswell It was an exciting time at the Lawn Bowling Club with such a large group of people including the contestants, digni- taries, club members and visitors. The opening ceremony included a parade led by a piper followed by parade marshall Ron Dick and flag bearers, Anna Beeton and Pearl Griffin. MPP John O'Toole and Mayor Doug Moffatt along with officials from Ontario Lawn Bowls and our club president Ned Banton were participants in the parade along with all the athletes. The preparations for these games at our club was huge and required the help of a large group of members and many hours of work. Thanks to them, our grounds and club house were in tip top shape. It was a pleasure to see these young bowlers displaying their skill on the greens. We look forward to a greater participation by the younger generation in this sport. A belated congratulations to Lois and Graham Dallas along with Ron Dick for their recent tournament win. Our thanks to John Phillips of Re/Max Real Estate for sponsoring that tourna- ment. From Page 18 #27 of King City's Adrian Foster crossed the line a distant fourth with the badly smoking #36 Chevy of defending champion Darrin Wrigglesworth tak- ing the checkers in fifth spot. By the time the Advantage Personnel Late Models took to the track for their 20 lap feature, whatever magic had been in the air had been surely used up, or so it must have seemed to Port Perry*s Grant Edwards. Long overdue for a win, Edwards appeared head- ed in that direction as he led the feature dash for 14 tours. After taking the white, last lap flag in the lead but with the #83 of lan Bourque filling his mir- No luck for Grant Edwards at Mosport rors, Edwards entered turn two a little too hot, sliding high which allowed Bourque to grab the inside line and eventually the race win. Finishing three feet behind the winner in a heart breaking runner- up position was Edwards with Newcastle's Jamie Hale rounding out the podium positions. 0000000000000 0000000 * * * * * * * ® 4 YOU KNOW?
