Scugog Hockey League Taylor Ford making a bid for title in playoffs By Jon Sanders Taylor/Ford Mercury 5 Pineridge Sports 2 As the SHL championship gets closer and closer, it looks as if Taylor/Ford Mercury is a team that should not be taken lightly. They proved this with a big 5-2 win over Pineridge Sports that includ- ed four third period goals. Jamie Menzies led the way with a pair of goals, while sin- gle markers were supplied by the likes of Keijo Kinnunen, Bob Almack and Ivan Geer. Bill Bridge was a factor in this game as well, adding two assists for Taylor/Ford. Steve Stiles and Lee Wilbur countered for Pineridge but it was not enough as it looks like Taylor/Ford is the team to beat in this year's playoff race. Compton Communications 4 K.C.I. Gas Bar | Two goals from Brian Pomeroy gave Compton Communications a quick 2-0 lead and they were able to hang on from there adding two more for a 4-1 victory. Duane Empringham and Mark Jobb also were responsible for the damage on the scoreboard, while Dave Cini added the only K.C.I. goal after being nicely set up by Bryan Norton and Dave Roth. Solid goaltending from Ray Gibson helped to contain the K.C.l. offense resulting in this win. Cedar Creek Contracting | Square Boy Pizza 0 In a very defensive battle, it was Cedar Creek Contracting shutting out Square Boy's Pizza by a score of 1-0. Once again the pizza boys failed to deliver as they faced a tough goaltender in Wayne Lown. His key saves allowed the Contractors to prevail along with the only offense in the game which was a nice unassisted goal courtesy of Mike Ayres. Sean Parker played a stellar game in a losing cause Please see page 19 Meeting's planned for April 6 Cartwright Fields plans to be discussed at forum The Cartwright Sports and Recreation group is inviting the . public to join them on April 6 at the Nestleton Hall at 7:30 p.m. to view and discuss the preliminary plans and cost estimates for Cartwright Fields.
