What & When you eat may also affect sleep patterns. As a shiftworker. you are 4x more likely to develop ulcers. diarrhea or constipation. small changes in the foods eaten can help reduce these risks. Some tips are: 1. Reduce intake highly seasoned foods. 2. Reduce foods high in fat & fried foods as these are hard to digest. 3. Limit caffeine - containg foods as they can cause distress in digestive tract. 4. Eat regular meals. Have a minimum of 3 meals in a 24 hour period. 5. Eat foods high in fibre as these may reduce risk of heart disease. 6. Pack a lunch to avoid high calorie/fat foods in vending machines. To help promote sleep. avoid caffeine. alcohol & greasy foods within 5 hours of going to bed. Try eating lighter meals with only small amounts of meat. Drink less fluids towards the end of the shift. Shiftwork may present some challenges to eating properly. but with some planning you can lower your risk of heart problems.
