"We decided to get married on New Year's' Day so we could start the millennium off on a posi-: tive, upbeat note," Mr. Proctor said from their Lakeside Beach Rd. home a few days before the wedding. "We wanted to get married before God, sort of a spiritual marriage... we thought that-was an appropriate way," he said. "We really wanted to start the new year off on a good note, and there's nothing more positive in our own, personal lives then getting married." The couple, who are both self-employed, were married by Elaine Barber. "There'll be no ride again this year; it just did- n't work out in the past and now we're looking at other ways to make Snowarama successful," said Mrs. Lee. "The poor turnout for the ride just wasn't get- ting it done, so we had to look at ways to change it. The dinner and auction at - the casino did very well last year, raising more than $9,000, and we're going to go with the same idea again this year." A total of $9,320 was raised during the dinner and auction. Half of the money is designated for children in Durham Region, while the remain- ing portion will be distrib- uted across Ontario. And, for the 2000 event, Mrs. Lee has her sights set high. "We're going to hold it at the Legion this year because I'd like to see a couple hundred people out there to enjoy the evening... I'd like to get $20,000 for 2000," she said. She'll 'be visiting local businesses in the near future, seeking dona- tions for the auction. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. with din- ner at 7 p.m. The auction (both live and silent) will begin at 8 p.m. With the assistance of the Port Perry: Rotary Club, Snowarama has raised more than $33,000 over the past four years for the Easter Seals Kids.
