The excitement was caused by more than just the usual enthusiasm of this dedicated group of fundraisers. The National President of the Kinsman, Steve Best of Newfoundland, was on hand with National Kinette chief Carol Bowie of Brockville to welcome a guest from even further away. Ian Hartley from Queensland, Australia came to tell the community group about his own organization, Apex. He described Apex as very similar to the Canadian Kinsmen groups in that it focuses on raising funds for its own com- munity and promotes fellowship amongst it members and the communi- ty. Kinsmen groups across -Canada raised an amazing $24.5 million towards treatment and care of Cystic Fibrosis patients last year alone. Several community leaders -- including former Mayor Howard Hall, who accept- ed a $4,100 cheque from the group for the hospital fundraising effort -- were iri attendance for the special night.
