They're seen here with Dr. Bob Allin, deputy chief-of-staff at Lakeridge Health Port Perry/Uxbridge, Dr. Allin says it is hoped residents who complete their training in rural hospitals will remain on staff due to a tremendous shortage of doctors in such areas. Program addresses shortage \ of doctors in rural areas From page 1 While the rural resi- dency program is still relatively new, a good number of medical grads are showing interest. While last year 80 applied to take part, Dr. Tepper and Dr. Adams were among a roster of 150 applicants this year. "This goes to show how much the populari- ty of the program has increased," said Dr. Adams. Orillia 18 also involved in the project. "What we are learning 1s fantastic, and will make us much more secure about our future." With the addition at the medical centre scheduled to begin next spring, there may well be a need for more physicians. And there 1s a good possibility both doctors will want to make Port Perry their home after finish- ing their one-year resi- dency here. Port Perry is defi- nitely a possibility for Dr. Adams as his fiancee, Dr. Nancy Kazarian, recently joined the staff at Medical Associates. "All of the physicians and patients have been wonderful," said Dr. Tepper. "It's great to have a community that sup- ports us. They are let- ting us be part of their health care." crossword alli
