Hosted by the Scugog Chamber of Commerce, Santa Claus, his eight After the parade is over, everyone is invited back to the fairgrounds to visit Santa's Village. "There'll be lots of games and crafts for the kids and Santa will be around so the children can have their picture taken with him," said Mr. Northey. "The Scugog Shores Museum will have grab bags for the kids and there will be refresh- ments and vendors around as well," he said. The Scugog Chamber of Commerce will be hold- ing a Christmas Draw to help offset the cost of the parade, which is expected to run about $8,000. The winner of the first prize will receive $1,000 cash, while second place will get a $250 gift certifi- cate to spend at Cashway Lumber. Third place will receive a $100 gift certifi- cate for Port Perry IGA, while the fourth-place winner will get a certifi- cate for the same amount to spend at Reid's Independent Grocer. The fifth prize is a pair of Toronto Maple Leaf tick- ets. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. They can be picked up at the Chamber office, The Port Perry Star or from any Chamber director. reindeer and all their friends will be paying a visit to Port Perry on Nov. 27, when the annual Christmas parade is held. The show begins at 2 p.m. when the first float leaves the Port Perry Fairgrounds to begin a winding 3.3-km journey through the downtown core;of Port Perry. The route will see par- ticipants travel the same route as last year; it was revised to alleviate traffic problems. From the fairgrounds, the parade will travel south on Rosa St. to Queen St., where it will turn east and travel to Simcoe St. From there, participants go south a short distance to Mary St., where they again turn east and travel to Water St. before turning north and heading back to Queen St. They will then head west through the down- town area before turning north onto John St., and then follow Simcoe St. back to the fairgrounds, where Santa's Village awaits. More than 60 floats are expected to be entered for the event, says parade co-ordinator Ray Northey. "We had 54 floats last year and we're hoping to top 60 in 1999," he said, noting that there are already eight bands con- firmed. "Alot of groups and businesses weren't abe to participate in 1998, but they have told me they'll be in it this year so we should have a good-sized parade," said Mr. Northey. A float for Santa and his reindeer is currently being constructed under the watchful eye of Rita Kennedy, and former Scugog mayor Howard Hall will announce the floats as they go by from his perch in front of the Port Perry Post Office, said Mr. Northey.
