'A Family Tradition for 133 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 9, 1999 - 23 | From Page 22 This scrap started after Mackie had been bowled over by a Flyer in front of the MoJack net. The MoJacks were not happy at all with some heavy stick-work by the visitors during the game. Adam Jones took a wicked slash across the kidney area and had to be helped to the dressing room. Arch-rival Uxbridge visits Saturday night had an assist on Beaulieu's goal in the first period. Other MoJacks collecting the all important assists for this victory were Jon Froates, Jeff Ashton, Matt Glen, Derek Tindall, Shane Norton and Kelvin Coates. The ModJacks were missing sev- eral regulars for this game due to a variety of He later went to hos- pital and his condition was not known at the conclusion of the game. And forward Jay Simmonds also took a hard slash across the arm that kept him out of action in the third frame. There may be reasons, Pirates. SLAPSHOTS: After a very busy week that included two long road trips to play clubs in the Eastern (Empire) League, the ModJacks now have the luxury of a week off and a chance to reflect on the performance against North Frontenac. They hit the practice ice Tuesday night and and the team was late in get- ting to the arena after being tied up in traffic on Hwy. 401, which meant a some scores to settle when the teams meet again in North Frontenac in mid- January. Coach Thornbury's chagrin at the loss to the Flyers was no doubt due to the fact that in their last three outings, the MoJacks had played some fine hockey -- taking two wins from the Picton Pirates in inter-locking action. The Pirates sit on top of the standings in their league. The most recent came last Thursday evening in Picton when a short-staffed MoJack squad came home with a 6-2 victory. Ryan McQuade led the MoJacks in the scoring parade with a hat- trick, while three players had one each -- Bill Beaulieu, Nick Pelyk and Jay Simmonds. Pelyk also Tom Thornbury Not very happy shortened no doubt the coaching staff will have some "surprises" ready just to jog the players' mem- ory, lest they have for- gotten. Next game for the ModJacks is this coming Saturday evening at the Scugog Arena against a bitter Central League warm-up prior to the opening faceoff. The players who did suit up turned in a gritty effort from start to finish. And netminder Jeff Mackie was on top of his game and had a huge role in bringing home two points for the green and white. He had 42 chunks of rubber fired his way and assistant coach Scott Pinkerton said it very well could have been Mackie's best per- formance in the past couple of years. The win made it two straight over the Pirates as the ModJacks nipped them 5-4 in Port Perry a week ago Saturday -- just the sec- ond loss in nine starts for the Ryan McQuade Hat trick vs Picton rival -- the Uxbridge Bruins. They are neck-and- neck in the standings (the ModJacks have 14 points) so this one has all the markings of an old fashioned barn burner. Aside from the race in the stand- ings, the teams have a hot rivalry that goes back several years and putting it as delicately as possible, they just plum don't like each other very much. In their one outing to date this season, the teams fought to a 3-3 tie Nov. 8 in Uxbridge. The Bruins are coming off a 3-1 win Friday night over Amherstview of the Empire loop. Faceoff is at the Scugog Arena Saturday night (Nov. 13) at 7:30 p.m. KCI Variety, Compton's knotted up 5-5 From Page 22 puck dropped to begin the second period. Scoring in the first for Pineridge was Gary Lance from Larry Pilkey and Steve Stiles, and Larry Pilkey assisted by Steve Stiles and Lee Wilbur. Taylor Fuels tied the game when Ken Little found the net after being set up by Brian Till and Colin Wackett, but the offense of Larry Pilkey gave Pineridge the lead once again. Assists were handed out to Danny Taylor and Lee Wilbur. Pineridge then proceeded to take a two goal lead when offense was supplied by Ken Smart Jr. as he was assisted by Lee Wilbur and Gary Lance. This was a back-and- forth game and in the third period it was Taylor Fuels responding with two goals of their own. Finding the back of the cage for Taylor Fuels was Brian Till from Brian Samis and Brad Hurst, followed by Dave Buxcey's goal which was nicely set up by Rob Kroonenburg. This game went right down to the wire and in the end it was Pineridge Sports emerging and it was Danny Taylor providing the late heroics as he found the twine with 44 seconds left on the clock. Assists on the game winner went to Larry Pilkey and Kelly Lee as Pineridge picks up a very big win. B. Callery & Associates 2 Harrison Fuels 1 In a very low scoring affair, B. Callery & Associates came out on the better end of a 2-1 decision with Harrison Fuels. B. Callery opened the scoring in the second frame when Steve Churchill came through offensively with the help of Rick Campbell and Jim Beatty. Late in the third Harrison Fuels was pressing and their efforts resulted in a goal from Darcy Milligan who was assisted by Brad Coppin and Karl Durham. The Associates were not about to settle for a tie and with eight seconds remaining in this defensive battle, Steve Connors supplied the much needed offense assisted by Phil Lalonde to give B. Callery a big two points. Goreski's Roofing 3 Taylor/Ford/Mercury 1 In another goaltender's battle, Goreski's Roofing shut down the Taylor/Ford Mercury attack, defeat- ing them by a final score of 3-1. Taylor/Ford jumped out to the early start and it was Jason Warner find- ing the net from Ivan Geer and Keijo Kinnunen. The Roofers took over from there when Scott Wilbur evened things up with help from Doug Bronson and Peter Somers. The next Roofer to find the scoresheet was Bill Van Camp as he wasted no time con- verting passes from Doug Bronson and Rick McJanet and put home the game winning goal. Insurance was added when Warren Geer found the empty net unassisted making the final 3-1 in favour of the Roofers. Compton Communications 5 K.C.I. Gas Bar & Variety 6 This contest featured some high- powered offense as Compton Communications and K.C.I. Gas Bar & Variety played to a 5-5 tie. Jarett Harman had a big game with a pair of goals as well as two assists resulting in a four point perfor- mance. He wasted no time finding the net as he started the game off with two goals. His first was a fine wrist shot upstairs and before his quick release he was fed by Steve Sinclair. His second was also up top but this time it was on the breakaway following a decent move on the Compton defenseman. Assisting on this goal was Jim Duncan. Three Compton goals followed this marker and getting Compton on the board first was Duane Empringham, unassisted. Todd Wilbur was next to supply the Compton offense as he put home two and gave his team the lead. His first was a nice shot, blocker side from Mike Driscoll, while his second was following a nice move in close also from Mike Driscoll. K.C.I. did answer back once again when Jim Duncan netted one from Steve Sinclair and Bryan Norton but Compton quickly responded thanks to Mike Driscoll who scored after receiving a nice feed from Andrew Steele. Two K.C.I. goals in the final peri- od put them ahead 5-4 and it was Steve Sinclair on the attack both times. His first was from Jarett Harman and Mark Pehlemann while his second was set up by Jarett Harman. Compton did not thrown in the towel and late in the final period Brad Moase coveted off of passes courtesy of Carl Stevenson and Duane Empringham to end this less than defensive contest in a five all tie. Monsma Electric 6 Square Boy Pizza 2 In this game it was Square Boy Pizza getting cooked by the Monsma Electric offense as they were shocked 6-2. The Pizza Boys did indeed deliver early on jumping out to a two goal lead. A recently published book by Port Perry Star publisher, ~ J.
