4 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, Jul aa ood y 6, 1999 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice " Canada Day arrived under cloudy skies July 1, 1999, but fortunately the rain held off for the official ceremonies held in Palmer Park in the afternoon and the fireworks later that night. Celebrations began with a colour party, led by piper Debbie Clements, M.P. Alex Shepherd, Scugog Chamber of Commerce President Les Gower and a contingent of Port Perry Girl Guides and Sparks, marching to _ the gazebo. Following speeches and O'Canada, the crowd was treated to free hot dogs and cake cour- tesy of the local M.P.
