12 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 4, 1999 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" For supply of materials Tenders for roads approved | Scugog Township council has approved several tenders for the supply of a variety of materials for the munici- pal roads department. Bids were opened April 16 by Mayor Doug Moffatt, works committee chair Gary Mahony, roads superintendent Ronn MacDonald and Township CEO Earl Cuddie. The works committee approved the tenders Monday morning and they were ratified by council later in the day. Westone Aggregates Inc. won the con- tract for supplying screened sand this year at a price of $6.26 per tonne. That is an increase over the 1998 price of $5.64 per tonne. Westone was the lowest of six bids submitted. Miller Paving Ltd. had the lowest of three bids for HL 4 Hot Mix Asphalt at $34.94 per tonne. Last year the Township paid $36.15 for this material. Duncor won the contract for Bituminous Surface Treatment at a price of .46 cents per litre for HF 150; $17.38 1p tonne for Class 2 aggregate; and 19.34 per tonne for HL 3 stone. These were the lowest of three bids received. Calcium chloride will cost the Township $.1300 per litre ($130,000 for one million litres) an increase over the $.1180 paid last year. Miller Paving will be the supplier of Calcium chloride, one of two bidders for this contract. Horton Custom Crushing was granted the contracts for several kinds of crushed gravel. Horton was the lowest of three bidders. "The costs will be .85 per tonne for off- belt; .85 per tonne for pit stock-pile; $1.99 per tonne for up to 10 km haulage; and .07 for over 10 KM. The cost of 'crushed in yard' will be $3.25 per tonne. Mr. MacDonald told the roads com- mittee that all successful bids were accompanied by the appropriate certified cheques, and that all companies have done business with the Township in the past.
