The ringette at this level is much faster and talented so our girls have some adjusting to do and are progressing nicely. Our first test was against first place Richmond Hill. After falling behind 4-0 our girls started gaining confidence but couldn't quite climb all the way back. One of the highlights of this game was a nice goal by Jenna Davison with assists going to Katelyn May and Janeen Kerswill but the final score was 6-3 in favour of a strong Richmond Hill team. After an 8-8 tie against Whitby and a 9-2 drubbing of Sunderland Port Perry was ready for Mariposa's annual tournament. In the first game Lauren Guthrie scored three as did Amanda Curry. Jill Hunter was welcomed back from sick leave and along with Caitlin Dunn played strongly on defence. Julie Tapper chipped in with two assists in a 10-6 win. Allyson Pehlemann continues to Shepstone Petites grab tourney title after win over host Mariposa improve and the rookie has started to score some goals. In a 6-0 win over Manvers Allyson scored one and assist- ed on another. Rachel Kaye played one of her best games ever as she gave the opposing defence fits as she led rush after rush eventually scoring a beauty. Her linemate Lesley Donovan had three assists and played well. Game three saw Ajax feel Port's wrath. Kim Wilson scored four times and Allyson twice to see Port advance to the championship game. Ceri Boomsma and Carley Churchill both had two assists and played expertly back on defence in this crucial game. On to the final. Mariposa hoped for a different result this time but not to be. Caitlyn Hellingman scored three with singles going to Lesley, Amanda and Ally-oop! Lyndsay Whyte was nearly unbeatable and made some saves in goal that had to be seen to be believed. This is Port Perry's second tourna- ment win in as many tries and next weekend in Jordan (by St. Catharines) they will try for the hat trick. with the Targeted Wage Subsidy program from Human Resources Development Canada Reduce your wage costs by up to 60% Gain dedicated employees Help qualified workers re-enter the workforce Rel Call Employer Services at C anada 725-3521, 725-3301 or 725-5186 for more information Novices now move on to quarter-final play at the Red Lobster Cup in Lindsay From Page 21 hockey and wasted no time taking control of the game. Graeme Brown setup the first scoring play just minutes into the the game by passing the puck to Hugh Allward who found the twine. A minute later Zachary Malyon added to Port's numbers by scoring unassisted. Zach's line mates Kyle Newbold and Evan Haslam didn't register any points this game but their efforts fore checking and back checking were very impressive. Cody Steranka contin- ued Port's charge in the second period with a high hard wrist shot from the point which the goalie couldn't handle. Learning from their previous game the Predators didn't relax with the lead instead they turned up the heat and added another to make it 4-0. The fourth goal came on a very sharp angle shot from Richard Vannetten, assisted by Taylor Muir and Hugh Allward. Port's goalies Cameron Daly and Fraser Gibson played well in net.
