Twas the Christmas, When all through the shack, I was making my list, lying on my back. I knew I wouldn't get much, But perhaps some pie. I would be lucky if I got butter on rye. My sister was bundled all up in her bed, While dreams of a huge Christmas, Danced in her head. The Christmas tree was shin- ing very bright, It was a very beautiful night. When outside in the woods, I heard some bells. Followed by laughter or maybe it was yells. Away to the doorstep I ran with all my might. To see what was causing my dog to have a fright. The moon left reflection off the new fallen snow, I thought I heard a jolly, "Ho, ho, ho!" It couldn't be Santa, he's never been here before, But perhaps he came because we're so poor? If it's him I'd better go to bed, Oh no! He better not land on the shed. I heard the reindeer upon the roof. I could make out the prancing of each little hoof. Was it Santa? No it couldn't be. But he appeared in the door- way for everyone to see. He opened his sack and put out some toys, All for girls, none for boys. I looked at my papa to see his face, And on it there was a look night before from John Green Electri that night the rest of my life of disgrace. The jolly old elf walked over to him, Then gave him a hat, it had a brim. Then he left us in our little house, And he rose up the chimney as quiet as a mouse. He got in his sleigh and called his reindeer by name: "Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen! On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen!" To the top of the shed, to the top of the trees, Now get going you reindeer, one two three! I'll remember that night for the rest of my life, How Santa's eyes, they shed ever so bright. He had the whitest beard I've ever seen. Santa was always friendly, never mean. He had a big fat round belly, That shook when he laughed like a bowl of red jelly. He was a short little elf in a red suit, Santa laughed all the time, He was never mute. I looked out my window to see if he was gone, The only thing left was tracks on the lawn. I looked up in the sky, and what did I see? It was Santa and he was star- ing right at me. But I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight: Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
