CHRISTMAS GREETINGS 1998 PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 22, 1998 - 5 The Night Before Christmas... 'He told his reindeer, Marci Burger and Kristy Popowich, Gr. 6, Cartwright P.S. T'was the night before Christmas and all through the town, Not a person was rustling not making a sound. The houses were decorated with lights and with bows, T'was cold through the night all in heavy clothes. The children were sleeping in their beds, Not a worry in their happy delighted little heads. Mom sleeping in her pj's and dad in his heavy clothes. I don't knew how they were feeling happy I suppose. Then all of sudden I heard a sound, You'll never guess what I found. I flew to my window like a fast flying bird, I saw exactly what I had heard. The bright moon in the sky and stars twin- kling bright, Snow covered the ground that cold snowy night. When to my eyes I saw him coming near, Saint Nick in his sleigh with eight tiny rein- deer. It was the jolly old man we all waited for, I cleaned the chimney the night before. The reindeer landed on the snow covered roof. : I could hear the prancing of each little hoof. They were running on the roof like it was a funny game. Then old saint nick called them by name. Come on, Dasher! Come on, Dancer! Come on, Prancer and Vixon! Hurry Comet! Hurry, Cupid! Hurry, Donner and Blitzen! To the snow covered mountain to the big dark sky! Now don't fly away!" Now dash away, dash away come on fly! Saint Nick chucked as he got out of his sleigh. He told the reindeer "now don't fly away!" He walked to the chimney with his white beard in his hand. I watched as they made there perfect land. He climbed down the chimney and bounded down, Good thing when he hit the fire he didn't wear a frown. I went to the room to see him at work. He heard me and turned with a jerk, He just chucked and took a bag from his back, He looked like a mailman opening his pack. He took out some toys and set them by the tree, I wanted to see which ones where for me. His eyes how they sparkled, his checks fat very, His dimples so cute his nose red like a cherry. His happy little mouth shaped like a bow, His beard on his chin was the colour of the SNOW. A big pipe in his mouth, It affected his health. He had a wide face and a big round belly, That wobbled when he chuckled like a full bowl of jelly. He was fat and plump a short jolly man, He was pale of course didn't have a tan. With a twist of his head and a smile so bright, I knew he had to go back into the night. He didn't speak at all but did his job well, On his belt rang a little bell. And then he put his finger on his nose, And then he winked up the chimney he rose. Up on the roof he got in his sleigh really fast, I knew I'd never forget this in my past. The reindeer took off with all their might, When Saint Nick called "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!" Steadfast and loyal . . . Honest and true.
