In the third Ajax man- aged to score one more goal but Churchill, Mike Blakey, Mark Duncan, and Chris McKitterick each scored goals to give Port a 5-3 victory. Port Perry's first game of the new month came on Dec. 2 in Lindsay. Once again the boys showed their grit in another come from behind victory. Lindsay got two goals in the first period but after that Carl Evans put on a clinic in the net. Lindsay watched as their two-goal lead slipped away thanks to a second period goal from Jamie Smith. Scott Duncan scored twice in the period and Port held a 3-2 lead going into the third. McKitterick and Mark Duncan each scored in the final frame and Port took the meeting 5-2. Dec. 5 Port Perry trav- elled to Sutton to partici- pate in a tournament. Port Perry was blown away in the first game against Huntsville. Jeff Tarbotten tied the game late in the second period at one until Huntsville answered back with a goal. With a 2-1 lead, Huntsville scored four unanswered goals and downed Port Perry 6- 1. Port Perry's second game saw another come from behind victory against Tecumseh. Down 2-1 in the third, Matt Skerratt and Blakey each scored to give Port a 3-2 lead. With less than two minutes remaining Tecumseh tied the game at three. However, they needed a win in order to advance in the tourna- ment. They pulled their goalie, which led to McKitterick hitting the empty net to seal a 4-3 victory. On Dec. 8 Port Perry went to battle with Cobourg. Both teams had problems staying out of the penalty box. Cobourg built a 2-0 lead after one period of play. It looked again as if Port was going to make a comeback bid as Dane Gray and McKitterick each scored in the second period. Cobourg got a late goal and scored the insurance marker in the third. On Dec. 5 the team travelled to Cannington for a tournament. In the first game they played a deter- mined Peterborough team who came out on top 3-0. Dylan Harper returned to the lineup after breaking his collarbone several weeks ago. In game two Port Perry met Beaverton and came away with more injuries than goals. Tyler Houthuys went into the boards and broke his ankle, while Glen Thompson took a hit behind the net and ended up "early lead in the first period and it stayed that way showing promise with a badly bruised shoulder and hip. On Dec. 6 Port played in Bobcaygeon and had their best game of the week. The opposition took an until midway through the third period when Geoff Simpson scored a short-handed goal to tie the game. This didn't last for long as Bobcaygeon scored with six minutes left in the game and then again on the empty net as the Predators tried to tie it up. The Techstar Plastic Bantams played smart hockey with good execution of plays and gave 100 per cent for the entire game. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come. They compete in tourney, league play Busy Predator Midgets win 1 of 5 It was a very busy week for the Canadian Tire Midget B team and it started with a home contest Dec. 9. Hosting Beaverton, Port Perry took the early lead when Wade Ritchie found the net with a low backhand through the pads of Beaverton's netminder. Also pro- viding offence in this game was Chad Lance after being set up by Brad Johnston, Kam Cooper who went upstairs on the breakaway and Scott Brownson with a nice move after receiving a pass from Joel Van Camp. Up 4-2 after two periods, Port Perry was not able to maintain their lead and the result was a 6-4 loss. The next game for the Predators was in Millbrook and the host team got the best of Port Perry handing the visitors a 5-3 defeat. Brad Johnston had a solid outing with a hat trick in the final period of play but it would not be enough in this contest. Bantam B goal- tender Mark Lott played well in the Port Perry nets in a losing cause. Tournament competition in Fenelon Falls was next on Port Perry's agenda as they faced Prince Edward County in game one. The Predators were all over their opponents from start to finish in this one and it was Russ Brown who opened the scoring in his return with assists going to Rob Taylor and John Burnett. Chad Lance was next to find the back of the net as he made a nice move to split the defence and pick his first of three in the game. In the second frame Port Perry continued to dominate as Brad Johnston put in a pair of goals including a nice slapshot that was able to'make it's way over the line. Already up 4-0 and on the power play, Chad Lance skated from the corner untouched and put in a low backhand assisted by Brad Johnston and Bill Carr. In the final period Lawrence Cook received a nice pass from Bill Carr and put a low shot in the cage. Minutes later Chad Lance completed his hat trick to close out the scoring in this one-sided affair. Chris Loughlin picked up the shutout while making many key saves for Port Perry. In the semi-finals, Port Perry met Peterborough and they got off to a slow start, finding themselves behind 3-0. Late in the second period, Bill Carr put his team back in the game on the breakaway and minutes later Russ Brown put Port Perry within one after taking a pass from Jon Sanders. Twenty seconds later, Joel Van Camp tied this contest at three with a low shot from in front of the net. The assist on this goal went to Scott Brownson. After a Peterborough goal, Bill Carr tied this game with his second of the contest to send this one into overtime. Solving nothing in nine minutes of extra play, it was time for one-on-one play. Coach Christie called upon Brad Johnston and although he gave a solid effort, Port Perry suffered defeat by a score of 5-4. Mark Lott had another fine game in net providing big saves in this close game. In Orono, Dec. 13, the Predators came up short losing a 4-1 decision. Wade Ritchie was the only Predator to find the back of the net as he went top corner while on a breakaway. Chris Monsma was assigned goaltending duties and played well in this game. The last game of the Division The teams traded Springgrove 3 goals in the second period Mackies 3 with Tyler Vanschagen The first game of the day was a thriller ending in a 3-3 tie with both goaltenders providing some great saves. Stephen Humphrey and Michael Rossler scored in the first period to give Springgrove a 2- 0 lead with Daniel Crosier giving them scoring for Springgrove and Neale Aziz scoring for Mackies making it 3- 1. The third period saw Mackies come on strong with goals by George McCormack and Adam Down. Cassie Morrison made some great saves to have the game end in a tie. Technique Transmission Snap-On 6 Sharcon 3 This peanlty free game featured end-to-end action, Kory Prosser playing goal for Sharcon made some excellent saves in the first period to keep Sharcon in the game as Snap-On pro- vided big time pressure with Cory Clarke scoring first and then Mike Hobbs got his first goal to.give Snap-On a 2-0 In the second period Mike Hobbs completed the natural hat trick with two more goals both assisted by Niki Jones. Sharcon couldn't get a break anywhere if Snap- On's goalie Matthew McLean wasn't stopping them cold then Ryan Sytsma would hit the post or Brent Wagg would ring one off the crossbar. The third period was just as action packed with Sharcon finally solving Snap-On's goalie Matthew McLean. Jordan Johnstone scored on a nice setup from Chris Avery and Sam Guenther. Then after Snap-On had goals by Mark Gibson and Niki Jones, Chris Avery and Sam Guenther had late goals for Sharcon to make the final score 6-3. Auto Plus Spanky's 5 Lakeside Marine 3 day had a little bit of everything in it. The first period saw Lakeside Marine take a 2-1 lead with goals by Luke Parlette and Kelly Pfister while Thomas Pendergast replied for Spanky's Haulage. The second period started with goaltenders Stuart McNally (Spanky's) and Kyle Clarke (Lakeside) mak- ing good saves to keep it close. Stephen Ashbridge then scored as he banged in his own rebound and setup Cody Parker's first of two goals. ]Cody's second goal came unassisted making the score 4-2. Aaron Wright then made it 5-2 on a nice goal from Jeremy Dunham and Robert Gatchell. Finishing the scoring was Lakeside's Kyle Carruthers with assists to Kelly Pfister and Michael Savage.
