The Corporation of The Township of Scugog (905) 985-7346 Harrison went to work early in this one building themselves a 2-0 lead only five minutes into the game. Jamie Menzies put Harrison's first goal on the board with help from Rick Olaisen and Brian Norton. Mike McGuinness was next to find the net for Harrison as he picked up his first of two in this game assisted by Richie LeFort and Greg Ellis. Taylor Fuels got back into this game in the sec- ond period when Willie Edwards scored from Steve Lee and Wayne Fox, but minutes later Harrison answered back with a nice goal from " Richie LeFort who con- nected after taking a pass from Rick Olaisen. In the third period Taylor Fuels was able to tie this contest at three when Jarett Harman and Wayne Fox both found the net. Assisting on Jarett's goal was Steve Lee and goaltender Bill Eade, while Rob Kroonenburg and Joe Curran set up Wayne Fox's game tying goal. Harrison Fuels took over from there however, as penalties proved to be costly for Taylor Fuels and Harrison took advantage with an unassisted goal from Mike McGuinness. They added another insur- ance goal when John Ennis scored assisted by Jamie Menzies and Steve Laird as this went to Harrison Fuels as they picked the two points with a 5-3 win. Van & Truck World 1 Ball/Callery & Associates 1 In more of a defensive battle, Van & Truck World and Ball/Callery & Associates solved nothing as they played to a 1-1 tie. Both goaltenders were solid in this contest as Bob Strickert made many key saves for Van & Truck World, while Don MacSween was stellar in the Ball/Callery nets. There was no offence in this game until the end of the second period when Brad Hurst put in a low, hard snapshot in the back of the net with only one second remaining in the second frame. Assists went to Phil McBride and Paul Stanley. Van & Truck World responded early in the final period when Greg Fitzgerald provided the rare offence in this game after taking passes from Brian Williamson and Dave Buxcey, but there would be no more offence in this game as it ended in a 1-1 draw. "I was really spread out before doing everything for everyone else and finally this marathon was for me. I was scattered around quite a bit, but it gave me a lot of self-confidence." With the help of Marg Squires, a neighbourhood friend, the training went well and Mrs. Connolly was one of the 35,000 who participated in the Marathon on Nov. 1. "I didn't realize how isolating jogging was at five in the morning, but Marg came out and got me all fired up when she rode her bike with me; it would have been very monotonous without her, that's for sure," she said, noting that she's not quite sure where she finished in the standings. "The winner of the race finished in two hours and five minutes and the person who came in last completed it in about 34 hours; I was somewhere around the five- hour mark." The race and the weight loss were not the best things to come out of the year though, she says. "It wasn't about the race, it was about the experi- ences; it was the training and the commitment and getting out and doing it everyday. Once I got going, I was amazed at my focus and energy and discipline. "It's easy for anybody to say that they'll do something; it's another thing to actually do it. I think that's important; I set a goal for myself and achieved it and that's a good example for my kids. You can tell them something without great conviction, but it helps when you can back it up with actions." The end result, she says, is plenty of self-confidence, many memories and the pleasure of removing the size 22 garments from her wardrobe and replacing them with size nines. "It's been a pretty good year for me.. I've learned a lot and done quite a lot. I'm not out there running daily anymore -- it's down to three times a week -- but I am with my family. "I can't do it every single day anymore, but as much as I hate it, I love it too. It's a love-hate sort of thing. I complain all the time I'm doing it, but when I'm done, I just love it."
