As a result an innocent man, a father of three, is dead. Another faces charges. Many lives have been shattered. This is another case of a completely innocent citizen being killed during a police chase. And it's a tragedy. When The Star asked people what they thought of police pursuits for its Question of the Week feature a couple of weeks ago, the answers were consistent: While people recog- nize the dangers of highway pursuits, they feel there are circumstances under which chases are warranted. In other words, you can't let suspects get away just because they don't stop when the flashing lights on the cruiser come on. There have been discussions about coming up with some sort of all-encompassing protocol for highway pursuits.
