In first period action, Eric Draper scored a beau- tiful goal assisted by Alex Van Camp. Port kept up the pressure and Jake Taylor popped in the second goal of the game with assists going to Derek Curran and Tyler Postill. Woodville battled back and scored Just before the period ended. Port demonstrated even more determination in the second period of play. Vanessa Wilde was out- standing in goal making a number of great saves. Matthew Murray was able to score two, unassisted goals to widen the gap. Strong defense by Lane Gibson, Luke Durward, Colten Beckley, and Derek Curran frustrated Woodville's attempts to score in this period. In early third period action, forwards David Nicolaou, Colton Jimmo, Zack Dickson and Courtney Pelow kept up the attack. Halfway into the period, Jake Taylor scored his second goal of the game, this time unassisted. Woodville found the net once more and the game ended 5-2. Teams from Whitby, Peterborough, Scarborough, ro y Emmerson's Ian Page scored the first goal, to put his team on the scoreboard in the second period in a recent match against Browmans. Then Chris Jackson came back and scored to tie the game. Both teams played well right into the end of the second period with good goaltending from Kellen Jackson and Robert Larmer. Early in the third, Dan Halward scored to make it two to one. Later in the third Emmerson broke loose to score four more goals with singles from Kyle Taylor, Justin Koury, Mike McIntyre and Ian Page. This was Emmersons first win of the year. Congratulations to the players on both teams. Lakefield, Lindsay, Omemee, and Woodville -- 16 in total -- came out for the event. Ringette squad still winless After opening the season with a second loss the Port Perry's Junior B ringette squad were off to Whitby for their second game of the early season. The hosts scored first and added another before the period ended. In the second Whitby put in another to go up 3-0. It looked like all the penalties were going to cost Port dearly but then the home team started getting into trouble. The girls rebounded with Sheena scoring on a backhand, assisted by Alaina B. and Nicole. Minutes later Katherine scored, assisted by Colleen and Courtney. Then it was Colleen scoring her first from Heather T. It was tied with five minutes left, when Port scored on a goal by Katherine, her second of the game, assisted by Colleen. In the dying minutes of the contest Whitby put one by Alaina to gain the tie. The final score was Port 4 - Whitby 4. Last Sunday the girls were off to Oshawa which was a big test for Port. The home team scored first but Port came back on a goal by Alaina B., assisted by Ashley. Things started getting rough with Oshawa taking many penalties and they began to intimidate the Port girls. It wasn't long before the girls found themselves taking many unnecessary penalties. Oshawa man- aged to capitalize on their power plays while Port was stymied. The girls were thrown off their game plan and found themselves in trouble. Oshawa scored three more times while Port failed to find the twine in the curfew shortened second period. Better Weekend action shifted to Huntsville for the Novice Predators, for the annual Lake of Bays Tournament. Port was one of 12 teams vying for supremacy in the heart of Muskoka. Bracebridge was the opening opponent, and Port got on the board early with a goal by Taylor Muir. Taylor found an opening above the opposing goalie's shoulder on an unassisted effort.Midway through the third, Bracebridge jumped on a couple of Port Perry lapses, and went ahead with two quick goals. The Predators could not muster any further offense, and the game ended in a 3-1 loss for Port. Against Georgetown for the sec- ond game, Port stepped up their play a notch and intensified their forechecking effort. The line of Hugh Allward, Craig Wise and Kyle Newbold was flying and caus- ing all kinds of trouble in the Raider's end zone. The game remained scoreless until the third period when Graeme Brown hit Hugh Allward with a pass to send him into the clear. Late in the third Georgetown fought back with an equalizer. It was an exciting game for the fans, and the Port goalie duo of Fraser Gibson and Cameron Daly put on a spectacular show. Port's third opponent was Parry Sound on Sunday morning. Again, Pearce Novices fall short at Huntsville tourney a.defensive struggle ensued. The defensive pairs, Cory Durward with Richard VanNetten, and Graeme Brown with Cody Steranka were virtually inpenetratable. The first two period were score- less, despite some near misses by Zach Malyon and Hugh Allward. Brian Stevenson and Mark Decosta got Taylor on the board in the early going with helpers awarded to Reg Templeton and Mark Decosta. But the Taylor assault kept coming with Mark Decosta scoring two more to complete his hat trick and Bill Bridge also scoring.
