Van, Truck World edges Harrison in SHL action From Page 21 The third was a different story however, as it was all Joe's as George Gladish put in the game winner assisted by Dave Dickson and Colin Wackett who finished with three assists. Monsma was shut down in this period by the defensive efforts 'of Joe's and they added some insur- ance with the empty net goal from Bill Weisflock with the assist going to Dave Dickson who finished with four points in this fine matchup. Van & Truck World 3 Harrison Fuels 2 The second game of the day was more of a defensive battle between Van & Truck World and Harrison Fuels with Van & Truck World emerging as the victorious squad in this contest. V.T.W. wasted no time getting on the board in this one as they found the net early in the opening period with a goal off of the stick of Ken Jeffrey. Assists went to Steve Stiles and Brian Williamson. In the second period V.T.W. added two more to go up 3-0. Providing the offence was Bob Almack from Brad Menzies and Steve Stiles, and Jay Adam from Steve Stiles was a factor in this game as he set up all three V.T.W. goals. The third period proved to belong to Harrison Fuels as Richie LeFort decided it was time to get his team back in this one and although he found the back of the net twice with assists going to Mike McGuinness, Clay Scott, and Jim Beatty, it would not be enough as V.T.W. was able to hang on for the 3-2 victory in this well played game. Taylor Fuels 4 Compton Communications 3 Game three belonged to Taylor Fuels as they prevailed by a score of 4-3 over Compton Communications. Jarrett Harman once again took control in the offen- sive department with two goals including a key third period goal which turned to be the game winner. Rob Kroonenburg opened the scor- ing in this game with an unassisted effort but Compton answered right back with the equalizer as well as the go-ahead goal in the second frame. Finding the Taylor Fuels net was Scott Wilbur from Mathew Hobbs and Todd Wilbur, as well as Mike Driscoll assisted by Dave Mann and Greg Warriner. Taylor Fuels took over from there in the third period with three goals in five minutes. Jarrett Harman picked up his first of the game from Tim Curry and Wayne Fox and one minute later Jarrett Harman set up Dean Smith to put Taylor Fuels up one. With one minute remaining Jarrett Harman collected his second of the game after being nicely set up by Wayne Fox and Dean Smith to give Taylor Fuels a comfortable 4-2 lead. Compton would not give up and their hard work paid off with a goal from Todd Wilbur with assists going to Peter Somers and Dave Mann but it would not be enough as Taylor Fuels picked up two points with a victory in this close game. K.C.I. Gas Bar 2 Ball Callery Associates 1 This game was a very defensive battle with both goaltenders coming up with key saves. Wayne Lown was solid in the K.C.I. nets and Doug MacSween was just as solid between the Ball Callery pipes. But K.C.I. was the better team coming out on top of Ball Callery by a 2-1 score. The first was scoreless but in the second the net was finally found by Steve Sinclair as he gave K.C.I. the 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal. Jeff Johnstone extended the K.C.I. lead to 2-0 with help from Brian Pomeroy but early in the third Ball Callery finally put one through the pads of Wayne Lown as Brad Hurst provided the goal after receiving passes from Phil McBride and Paul Stanley but the K.C.I. defense shut Ball Callery down from there to collect the win. Taylor Ford/Mercury 5 Cedar Creek Contracting 5 In this offensive minded game Taylor Ford/Mercury and Cedar Creek Contracting solved nothing as this game ended in a 5-5 draw. Port plays Friday in Georgina From Page 22 Merchants went ahead 5- 3 when the ModJacks were two men short midway through the second period. But the ModJacks added a late goal to again cut the margin to one. The ModJacks opened the third with some strong play in the Merchant's zone, buzzing around the net and generally enjoying a territorial edge in the play. But a seven-minute penalty to Matt Glenn gave the visitors the opportunity to turn the momentum. Glenn tangled with Robert Hanna and was assessed five for fighting, a game misconduct and an extra two minutes for being the instigator. Hanna got off scot-free, as the ref felt he took no part in the "fight." Port Perry then got an extra five-minute penalty during a wild four-player scrap featuring netminder Mackie and captain Clarke, so the team was down two players for near- ly seven minutes. ~ They valiantly tried to keep the Merchants off the scoreboard and net- minder Ben Jillard, who replaced the banished Mackie, made some very tough stops. But the Merchants eventually scored to take the two- goal advantage again. Still on a power play, the Merchants made it 7- 4 despite some gallant work by the penalty- killing units. Adam Metheral netted one for the MoJacks late in the game to make it 7-5 but the visitors put one in an empty net with three sec- onds left for an 8-5 final score. Thornbury said the series of penalties in the first period that led to the big 4-1 lead for the Merchants was the turn- ing point in this game. He sald the 'bad blood' between the MoJacks and Merchants may be from last year's playoffs.
