Close call for driver A 17-year-old Port Perry woman is lucky to be alive after her vehicle col- lided with a tree and burst into flames, say Durham Regional Police. At approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 24 police say the female was eastbound on Scugog Line 4 when she swerved to avoid an animal on the roadway and left the road, hitting a mailbox, and venturing into the south ditch. She continued on through a fence and struck a tree, where, upon contact, her car became engulfed in flames, police say. The 1995 Dodge Neon, which was driven by a 17-year-old Highland Crescent resident, was completely destroyed, say police. The female, the lone passenger in the car, received minor injuries as a result of the accident. No charges have been laid.
