Seven students in Dave Robinson's OAC Business Administration class will host an Italian dinner next Wednesday (April 22) with all the proceeds going to Denise House. Included on the all-you-can-eat menu - - which will be prepared by students in the school's Grade 12 cooking class -- will be spaghetti, garlic bread, caesar salad, and ice cream. Dinner will be served between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m in the school cafeteria, and entertainment will be provided by Jazzmerize, a group of PPHS students. While the charitable dinner will make up a large chunk of their final mark in the class, Colleen Dekoning says that getting a good grade is not the only moti- vation for organizing the feast. "This is a marked project for us, but, it is a big project for us personally; we get to help and work within our community and do something that will benefit every- one overall," said the 18-year-old OAC student. Work on the dinner began in February after the class was approached by a rep- resentative from the Denise House, who told them that money was tight at the region's womens' shelter. "We met with a lady from the shelter who faxed us and told us that they were low on money, and that they would appre- ciate any type of fundraiser," said Ms Dekoning. "From there we decided to go ahead with a spaghetti dinner because it worked so well last year (proceeds were sent to the Light The Way campaign for crossing lights on Hwy. 7A) and it is quick, efficient and good; most people like it." All the food for the dinner has been provided by Reid's Independent Grocer, and Ken Koury at The Nutty Chocolatier has sent along plenty of chocolate for the event. . Door prizes will also be up for grabs; they have been donated by various local businesses, she added. While the students prefer that tickets for the dinner be purchased in advance -- they are available for $10 ($5 for those under the age of 10) at The Nutty Chocolatier -- Ms Dekoning says that they will be available at the door.
