"A Family Tradition for 132 Years" Still room for four members on board Church service for Epsom-Utica this week, Feb. 1, will be a joint ser- vice of the Charge which will be held at Goodwood Church starting with singing at 9:30 a.m. fol- lowed by service at 10 a.m. This past Sunday at the service held in Epsom, the congregation was greeted at the door by Maurice and Marydale Tapscott and fol- lowing an abbreviated ser- vice, the annual meeting was held. Faye Ashton and Cathy McKay very capably led the meeting. Nominations were pre- sented for the coming term which included: Janet Lehman to continue as treasurer, Gord/Alison Wallace, John/Suzanne Warner, Mike/Elaine Keba and Elaine Pratt. Business was conducted and coffee and doughnuts enjoyed. The community was saddened to hear of the illness of Norm and Alison Wallace's son Mike, who, this past week was diag- nosed with cancer. Our prayers and concerns are with this family and with Mike as he undergoes his sessions of chemo over the next while. Mike attends Epsom School. The Utica Hall Board held their annual meeting on Jan. 18. Mayor Doug Moffatt conducted the nominations and, sorry to say, there were no new members turn out to accept a position. The Board remains pretty much the same with the exception of the resig- nation of Alison Aked. There is still room for four new members if anyone is interested - especially any- one in the Epsom area, give it a thought. The next meeting is on Feb. 10. There are a couple of children up on the sixth line who will be celebrat- ing birthdays this week. Happy ninth birthday to Jenna Houghland and happy seventh birthday to Jeremy Houghland. Birthday greetings to Rachel Sutherland who will be 11 this week. Russell Tracey also cele- brating, he will be ten this week. Happy birthday to all you older kids too who are celebrating. At ten to five Sunday the last of Icehenge collapsed with a great splash, leaving only ¥ mbled shards of ice. It's a disappointment for all those who worked so hard to erect it for it would have been nice to enjoy it for more than just a couple of days. Those who had a chance to walk out into it were pleasantly surprised for it did take on the magical atmosphere of Stonehenge. It had a mystical feel that was truly Canadian including a maple leaf that had coincidentally been frozen into one of the uprights. The great thing about it was that a group of peo- ple virtually unknown to each other had come together and worked as a team for a several days. It was a rare moment, of com- munity and a flash back to times when neighbors would congregate for posi- tive reasons, to raise a barn, or bring in a harvest. The sad thing is that Icehenge won't be around for others to enjoy for the expected month or two that it should have stayed standing. The person who cut the hole, if they did it knowingly, should consider themselves a criminal. If they did it unknowingly they should feel a little remorse about the stupidi- ty of their action. One thing is sure this past week has showed all of Scugog that we have a great deal to learn about unpredictability of both people and ice. The redeeming factor is that a group of people who had never worked together before, with minimal direc- tion, worked in safe har- mony to complete the mon- umental task in such short order.
