SR EP rate "A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 16, 1997 - 19 Local bands, special guest highlights for Friday's 'Mayhem Music Festival By Christine Bryant Port Perry Star Get set for a special brand of may- hem in town this coming Friday night. Port Perry High School student Stephanie Boddington is busy this week preparing for the Mayhem Music Festival which is set to take place on Friday (Dec. 19) from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Port Perry Community Centre. The Community Centre was rented out at a break- even price for the event so as to raise the profits. All money raised from the event will go to local families who need help. Ms. Boddington is focusing on pub- licity this week, in an attempt to let everyone know what is happening. "There has been a lot of community support, but our big problem is letting people know what is going on so that they will buy tickets," she said. As for the operation of the Show Wipers Won't Wipe itself, she has no fear:"It's going to run like clockwork, I have no worries." The festival will feature many local bands, who are opening for a surprise guest. There have been many rumors as to the identity of the headliner, but organizers are keeping quiet about it right now. So if you want to know, you'll just have to come out. Local bands such as Liquid Sunshine, Morrighan, The Good Fellows, Mr. Machete and Double Standard will be on stage Friday night. There's a little bit of music for everyone ranging from rock, punk, blues, celtic and funk. There are a limited amount of tickets, so be sure sure to buy yours for only $10 at Jayson Callan Music in Port Perry or Marigold Travel in Brooklin and the Video Image in Port Perry and Brooklin. The Boom Box also has a limited number of tickets. Tickets will be available at the door but are very limited. It's bad enough that your windshield washer fluid is freezing on your windshield, now the wipers are only moving the dirt around. What can you do? It starts with choosing the right wiper blades. Hardly anybody thinks about the wiper blades--after all, they won't cost you big bucks at the service outlet. Well, they might cost you big bucks at the body shop. Defensive driving instructors will tell you that vision of the road and the traffic around you is your most potent defense against collisions. Keeping a clean windshield is a good start. Just as there is seasonal windshield washer fluid, * Chattering or squeaking sound as the blades work-- usually caused by blades warped through infrequent use or exposure to strong sunlight--the blades take on a permanent curvature, instead of conforming to your windshield. * Worn rubber--old blades will exhibit rounded or ragged edges, which will not clean properly. So how do you go about getting the best performance from your windshield wipers? First, clean off the whole windshield-- don't try to look through a porthole. Gently remove ice from around the wiper blade, and make sure the arm can move freely. If For fast, damage. free towing service, I) trust Brian's Towing. Switch blades every six months, in the spring and fall. Winter wiper blades are typically well-protected against ice and snow build up so that the rubber wiping blade remains flat on the windshield. The rubber used has better cold weather performance, too. Living in a fine climate is no guarantee against wiper blade deterioration--even sunlight can cause the rubber to age and crack in a relatively short time. Common Problems To Watch Out For * Cracked or split rubber-usually caused by ultraviolet rays or overly aggressive ice removal. Clean the snow off the hood, too--otherwise, it will lito : wind up in your face as soon as you drive away.
