Chief to be hired by fall By Chris Hall Port Perry Star A new "top cop" for "the Durham Regional Police is expected to be hired by the early fall, says Scugog Mayor Howard Hall. "We're going to meet in June to discuss the topic and we should know who the new chief of the Durham Regional Police is by September," said the mayor, a mem- ber of the regional police services board. He said KPMG, a consultant firm from Toronto, is presently looking into the matter. "We interviewed two consulting firms and we decided on them (KPMG). They are very experienced in helping find new police chiefs, in fact they helped the Peel Regional Police find their new chief. The other firm was not very familiar with police chiefs," said Mayor Hall Thursday. While he insists that the procedure of looking | for candidates has not begun yet, he does express hope that some- one will be found by the fall. "Nobody's been looked at yet; nothing at all has happened," he said. "They are supposed to have one picked out by October or September, but I'd like to see a new chief by September. I hope we have a replacement for Chief McCagherty prior to him leaving." Present chief Trevor McCagherty- and deputy chief Robert Jarvest have announced their retire- ments and are sched- uled to step down Oct. 2. Their announcement came soon after another deputy chief, Alex Murray, announced his retirement.
