Since landing in Sweden on April 9 with trainer Bill (Jesse) James of Blackstock, Village Beretta has raced twice. - In his first race he finished a close second at the Finlandia Ajo in Helsinki on April 26, a length and a half behind Zoogin, the 1995-96 Swedish and European trotting cham- pion. But he wasn't as lucky In his second race, the Oslo Grand Prix in Norway on May 11. Parked three- wide for a mile, it was tough going for the horse, and he ended up sixth. "It was a horseman's worst nightmare," Mr. Van Camp said. "It (the race) was real tough on him, but that's what harness racing is all about; you have to take the good with the bad."
