"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 6, 1997 -5 By Angela Drew Port Perry Star Another fundraising effort is being planned for the "Wheels in Motion" campaign to benefit 18 year old Trevor Szewerda. In the fall of 1996 the Szewerda family of Seagrave, along with George Van De Walker of Port Perry, started the "Trevor's Wheels in. Motion Fund" to purchase a van to transport the Szewerda's disabled son. Karl and Karen Szewerda need the new van to transport Trevor, who has cerebral palsy and is deaf and blind. With all of the community support and donations the "Wheels in Motion" fund is half way to its goal of $35,000, which will purchase a van with a wheelchair lift. General Motors, where Mr. Szewerda works, is supplying the vehicle at a cost of $25,000. Inclusion of the lift brings the price to $35,000. The company has contributed $1,000, and the Canadian Auto Workers union has contributed $1,500 since the campaign was begun last year. The next and final fundraising event for the cause is set to go on Saturday, May 31 at the Scugog Community Centre beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature a live and silent auction. A small admission charge will entitle all to door prizes and refreshments. A dessert buffet will also be served following the auctions. A special appearance will be made by Dave Duval of CFTO-TV, and other television celebrities will be in attendance. For more information, call Mrs. Szewerda at 985-8937.
