"A Family Tradition for 131 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 6, 1997 - 11 Police report Counterfeits showing up in Scugog 'Durham Regional Police report that coun- terfeit money is once again making the rounds throughout Scugog Township. Police report that a fake $20 bill was brought to the Royal Bank in Port Perry on April 30 by a citizen for verification. After a brief check, the Royal Bank con- firmed that the bill was counterfeit. Sled missing While the snow has left the ground, thieves are still stealing area snowmobiles, local police say. Durham Police report that a green 1997 Polaris 500 and a single bed trailer were stolen from a Devitts Rd. stor- age shed. Between April 15 and May 1, someone entered the shed through a sliding door on the east side of the shed and made off with the machine and trailer. The snowmachine was estimated to be worth $8,000 and a value has not been placed on the trailer. Attempted arson Durham Police are still investigating a break, enter and attempted arson of a McKee Rd. workshop. Sometime overnight on April 30 and May 1 someone broke into the workshop and doused the door with kerosene before lighting it. However, the kerosene didn't burn well and eventually went out. Police are still investigating. Stolen Van A blue 1992 Plymouth Voyager was stolen from the Port Perry Plaza on May 1, say local Police. The van was taken between-8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and was later discovered on May 3 in the woods at west end of Bradburn Rd., west of Blackstock. Seatbelt Blitz Durham Regional Police report that dur- ing a two-week seatbelt blitz 525 people in the region where fined $105 and two demerit points for seatbelt infractions. There were a total of 166 people in 26 Division (Scugog, Brock and xbridge Townships) who were fined by local police. This represents the highest non-compliance total in Durham Region. Regatta won't be held this summer Mayor Howard Hall, citing fond personal memories of the Regatta, said "it was a great day for the kids. | remember the sail boat races and the great fun; its a shame to lose it." Long time Regatta volunteer Len Proutt may have summed up the demise of the much beloved family event when he said, "Nothing in this world is so grand that it lasts forever."
