"C-Final" Cedar Creek Clippers 2 TaylorAces1 After a great game one, the fans were treated to yet another fine matchup. The Taylor Fuel Boys had enjoyed a great season that saw them capture first place in the regular portion, with the rest of the league close behind right up to the very last game. The Clippers under the new sponsor- ship of Derek Fitzgerald had some tough luck with injuries late in the season, but both the teams looked forward to this fi- nal. Period one saw the Aces take control with a goal from Dave Jackson assisted by Greg Fitzgerald and Brad Menzies. Period two saw the Clippers reply on a tally by Dan Taylor from John Harman. Period three saw goaltenders Wayne Lown and Richard Huggins stop every- thing in sight and on to overtime we went! No bet was safe as both teams gave it their all. After just three minutes of OT it was sniper John Harman from "Jason Warner who potted the winner and gave the Cedar Creek Crew the J&D Trophy for this year. Game stars went to goalie Wayne Lown, forward John Harman and de- fenseman Dave Jackson. Thank you to team sponsors Derek Fitzgerald and Wayne Taylor. MVP awards were donat- ed by Bruce Smith, Mike Driscoll and Roger Moase. "E-Final" Pineridge Wolves 4 Ball-Callery Senators 1 High noon saw the crowd gather for the Annual "Bowl Classic." No team really wants to play in this game, and certainly no player wants to lose the game thus winning the "Outdoor Plumb- ing." This is what faced the Wolves and the Senators as they took to the ice for game three. As expected, everyone picked up their game a notch and the fans did their part from the stands. The Senators struck first on a goal by Mark Decosta from Rike Hope. With the Senators pressing for more, goaltender Shawn Parker in the Pineridgo cage came up strong and allowed the Wolves to regroup. Late in the second period the "final howl" began with Willie Edwards scor- ing from Tim Ashbridge and Ken Smart Jr. This was followed by another mo- ments later by Glen Hudson from Ken Smart Sr. The Senators pressed to tie but Steve Connors dashed all hopes of a comeback as he netted a pair, with a pair of assists to Willie Edwards and a single to Tim Ashbridge. At the buzzer it was the Wolves "dodging the bullet" and the Senators with "Le Bowl" for the sum- mer! Thank you to team sponsors Terry Coyne and Brian "Captain" Callery. The SHL game star shirts were pre- sented to goalie Shawn Parker, forward Steve Connors and defenseman Todd Wilbur. "B-Final" Pizza Delight Roosters 2 Harrison Flames 1 This contest proved to be everything the crowd expected. Both teams had en- joyed a super playoff round and whenev- er you get perennial all stars Larry Pil- key and Ed Olsen going head-to-head, the fans are suretoget a great game. Gary Lance put the Roosters ahead early after the opening faceoff as he scored from Carl Fitzgerald and Andrew Steele. Then it was the Flames replying on a nice goal by Wayne Norton from Dave Dickson and Brian Samis. Within seconds the Roosters regained the lead as Steve Dunn found the net from Gary Lance and Duane Bronson, to end the first period. What about the second and third frames? They belong to John Moore and Troy Glazier. Both goaltenders shut the door and despite numerous chances the first period scoring stood up to see the Pizza Delight Roosters capture the SHL "B Champion" trophy! Thank you to team sponsors Don Mitchell and Dave Harrison. The Harri- son MVP Goalie Award went to John Moore. The Jim Beatty MVP Forward Award was presented to Gary Lance, and the Mike Adam defenseman MVP was Steve Dunn who scored the winner and played a strong game on the Rooster blue line. "A-Final" Van World Sharks 5 Compton Comets 2 This final game for the 1996-97 season 'brought everyone to the stands. All week SHL members had been trying to decide on the victor in this final since both teams had enjoyed strong seasons and an excellent playoff round. The Comets had the crowd buzzing midway through the first as Greg Warriner notched one from Terry Bache. But then as reported a number of seasons ago, out of nowhere came the famous Shark At. tack! There were no minnows in this one as David Roth and Jarett Harman scored two each and Clarence Stephen- son added a single. Assists saw David Burnett and Harman with a pair each and singles to Dave Roth, Jay Adam, Tom Barnes and Ivan Geer. ~The Comets had the final replay late in the third as Kelly Lee netted one from Darcy Milligan and Steve Lee, but the game belonged to the Sharks as they took the SHL "A Champion" trophy for 1996-97! Thank you to Ron Compton and Mike Adam for their season sponsorships. Game stars saw Bob Strickert pre. sented with the Dave Harrison Goalie Award, Jarett Harman with the Ron Compton Forward Award, and David Roth taking a well deserved J&D De- fenseman Award. With the on-ice action now complete the teams moved next door to the Com- munity Hall to devour pizza, swap game highlights and enjoy the presentation of the League Awards. Wayne Taylor and team rep Ken Little along with the rest of the Taylor Fuel Team took the First Place Re/Max Trophy. The Grosvenor Trophy went to Scor- ing Champ Jarett Harman. Troy Glazier was presented the Exec- utive's Trophy as top goaltender for the season. The 1996-97 League MVP saw the Larry Page Trophy presented to John Mackey and the Ross Page Memorial Plaque donated by Van Camp Construc- tion went to a well deserving Reg "At-a- Boy" Templeman! The free entry draw and raffle draw had Ron Compton and John Harman as the lucky winners for the 1997-98 gea- son!
