The true sign of spring has nothing to do with the ice on Lake Scugog or the ar- rival of the Robins and Blue Jays Baseball. Indeed, the change of seasons in Scugog features the champion- ship games in the Scugog Hockey League as the real indicator, and a summer full of bragging rights for the successful few. The "Road to the Final Games" ended on Sunday, March 30 with the traditional Easter ex- citement and at least eight of the 10 teams jockeying for final championship game positions. Flames 8 - Chargers 3 Game one saw the Harrison Flames capture a spot in the B-final with a victory over the Monsma Charg- ers. Larry Pilkey led the way with the hat trick and an assist for a four point outing. Extra Flame counters went to Wayne Hancock, Dean Smith and Brian Sa- mis. Assists saw Jim Beatty, Karl Durham, Bob Part- ington, Wayne Norton, Dave Dickson and Brian Samis all chip in singles for the important victory. The Chargers had replies from Brian "Red" Steven- son, Bill Van Camp and Lee Wilbur with two assists by Ritchie LeFort and a single from Marvin Stevenson. Comets 3 - Hawks 0 Game two featured the Compton Comets against the J&D Hawks with the Comets eyeing the chance for an A-Final berth. While the Comet crew needed help in the latter games, they did their part as they blanked the Hawks 3-0. Ken Harman did the job in the Comet Cage for the shutout and Greg Warriner from Darcy Milligan, Terry Bache from Warriner and sponsor Ron Compton from Sean Fewer and Kelly Lee looked after the scoring. Aces 2 - Wolves 4 Game three had the league champion Taylor Aces face off against the Pineridge Wolves. With the Wolves already guaranteed a spot in the Annual Bowl Classic the Aces had win on their minds. Well as expected, the Wolves had one last howl as they trumped the Aces 4-2 and sent them all the way down to the C-Final. For the Wolves it was a pair by Ken Smart Sr. and singles to Peter Lane and Steve Connors for the sweet victory. Rick Sakanashi has two assists with singles to Willie Edwards, Bob Beacock, Glen Hudson and Tim Ash- bridge. Tho Aces had replies by Paul Stanley from Mike Clarke and Doug Bronson and later Brad Menzies from Terry Flieler and Stanley, but they just couldn't handle the Wolves for the first time all season. Devils 1- Senators 0 Game four continued with important game situa- tions as the Pizza Delight Devils battled with the Ball and Callery Senators. The Senators crew already had their position locked in Bowl Mode but the game meant many possible venues for the Devils. As expect - ed once again, the underdogs came up big but in the end it was the Pizza gang with a narrow 1-0 score on a goal by Andrew Steele from Carl Fitzgerald and Garry Lance that sealed the berth in the B-Final. Troy Gla- zier took the shutoutin a fine match by "oth teams. Clippers 5 -Sharks 3 Game five completed an exciting slate of games as the Cedar Creek Clippers humbled the leading Van World Sharks 5-3. With the Sharks already slated for the A-Final it was up to the Clippers to prove a point and the message was sent. Mike Geer and Jason War- ner each tallied two Clipper counters while John Har- man added the single. The Shark attack had replies from Wayne Fox, Jar- rett Harman and Steve Fox. Single assists went to Jay Adam and Harman with Jim Fowler counting a pair of helpers.
