18- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 1, 1997 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" New CEO eager to start work From Page 1 both my wife and I are enthused about the move. We think both communi- ties have plenty to offer," he said last week from his Walkerton home. With the province's Health Care Restructuring Committee making the rounds, all the hospitals can do is wait and see what, if any, impact it has on the Scugog and Uxbridge Township hospitals, said Mr. Kirvan. "The Commission wants hospitals to be effi- cient and we are deter- mined to meet their goals. We're going to have to wait and see what they deter- mine as our health care policy and see how it effects us. They wanted less administration so we J ------ -- EL (ATNANAWNNTANNANWI Kelly, Zuly, Greenway, Bruce BARRISTER AND SOLICITORS Motor Vehicle - Criminal - Personal Injury Wills - Real Estate - Family Law Corporate & Commercial nis Evenings and Weekends by Appointment 114 King St. E., Oshawa 723-2278 - I ---------- ------ Mackey, Bailey & Korb Barristers & Solicitors Saturday Mornings 9:00 am to 12:00 noon 985-7391 Lake Scugog Lumber Building Oshawa Rd., Port Perry NQIOYSRER comfortable as your vacation. * FREE parking, 14 days * FREE airport shuttle (operates 22 hours per day) e Children under 18 stay FREE if sharing a room with parents e Children 6 and under eat FREE Special Rate SQ CDN. We're trying to jam as much patient care into these hospitals as we can," said the new CEO. Mr. Kirvan also says that he understands what the government is doing, and backs it as long as they do what they say they will. "If they start closing hospitals without talking to people and taking away needed services then I would have to disagree, but I hope they don't do that. I'm an optimist." With over 20 years of experience in this field, Mr. Kirvan says his best asset here will be his peo- ple skills. "I"m looking for some progressive things to hap- pen here and I think my greatest strength is how I deal with people. I don't make decisions. I talk to people and try and see what's going on and how they feel. I'm always will- ing to listen." As for the move to Durham Region, he says it was more luck than any- thing as he was leaving his post in Walkerton at the same time this position was offered. "Where I was working they were going to amal- gamate into four hospitals and I was stepping down because I thought some- one new should take over. At the same time, the amalgamation was going on down here and 1 applied. It was pretty coin- cidental," said the father of six. students.
