Warning over fake canvassers issued By Angela Drew Port Perry Star Scugog residents are being warned to be on the look out for fraudulent canvassers posing as volun- teers for the Heart and Stroke Foundation . A report of phony canvassers in the Oshawa area prompted the warning, issued last week by Ann Capon, Durham East Area Coordinator with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. When approached by a canvasser look for an official Heart and Stroke foundation badge or tag, she advised. The legitimate canvasser will also be carrying an official folder with receipts for the donor. In one case that has been reported, the phony canvassers had no badges and were wearing "scruffy" looking clothing, said Mrs. Capon. The unofficial canvassers are described as young women. Some children may be found going door-to-door obtaining sponsors for the Jump Rope for Heart event. All students are equipped with an official sponsor sheet.
