But last Monday afternoon, there was a very different sound coming from the chambers: The haunting melody of that famous Scottish ballad, "Lock Lomond." Members of the well-known Port Perry High School vocal group Jazzmerize were paying councillors back the best way they know how -- in song. Council agreed to a request by the group for a grant of about $400, which will cover the rental of the Scugog Centre Feb. 21 when Jazzmerize holds an auc- tion to help raise funds to attend the Rocky Mountain Festival later this year in BanfY, Alta. But the council has set a policy that it will not waive those fees. It will, however, come up with matching dollars for certain causes deemed worthy, such as helping Jazzimerize and the PPHS Senior Jazz Band attend the Banff festi- val. Music director Charles White pointed out that the cost of renting Scugog Centre for the auction represents the price of two air tickets to BanfY. The choir sang Loch Lomond after councillors had unanimously agreed to the request for financial assistance. Funds for reunion Earlier in the meeting, council agreed to a $2,500 loan as "seed money" to help prepare for a 125th Reunion of PPHS staff and students, scheduled for May of this year. Reunion committee members Larry Doble, Bill Holtby and Sandra Riches told council the money will be used mainly for publicity and mailing invita- tions to former students and faculty for the four-day reunion, which starts May 1. ey & AY : ~ I: April Tindall Wedding Co-ordinator (905) 852-6792 It's every girl's dream to have the * Full Floral Service o Candelabra gyi Rentals zehrs FOOD PLUS | | ie EM A RKETS|] * Wedding Cakes from our in-store * Wedding * Huge selection Arches | of party platters * Consulting | %, go RID oe * New seafood dept.
