Vol. 131 Number 03 PORT PERRY, ONTARIO - TUESDAY, DEC 4 . Doctors meet to discuss closure Doctors in Scugog Township are considering joining oth- er Ontario doctors by shutting their doors to patients this Friday. In a meeting held last night, area doctors met to discuss what action they would take after it was announced last Friday that a shutdown was set for Dec. 13. : Thousands of Ontario doctors will stage a one-day strike to register their anger over the government's handling of the health care system. A coalition of 9,300 specialists and a group of militant family physicians have called on all doctors to shut their doors on Friday and reschedule all appointments. Warned that "office closures will continue on a weekly basis until an agreement is reached", the specialists plan to make sure that the government notices them in the health care funding dispute. The action comes as doctors and the government appear to be close to settling the fight over health-care funding that prompted many physicians to stop accepting new patients last month. Officials with the Ontario Medical Association had hoped to reach a tentative deal by last Friday. Dr. Bill Cohoon, who practices with the Medical Associates in Port Perry, wouldn't comment on any possible action here, pending last night's meeting.
