Joanne Bouwhuis an Marangai, a six-year-old Hanoverian stallion, have been partners in the shows ring for three yeas now. But this year has been particularly significant for the pair. On Sept. 22 Marangai was awarded top honors at the Canadian National Dressage Championships (East) held at Cornerstone Farms in Richmond Hill. Earning a remarkable top score of 69.64 per cent over 19 other entrants, the horse had the highest tally across the three regions (Pacific, Western and Eastern), making him the overall Canadian Champi- onin the Basic 4 Senior Di- vision. Although Marangai is owned by Francine Saun- ders of Chestnut Ridge Breeding Stables in Mill- brook, he's been trained and ridden by Joanne since he was a three-year- old. A Canadian Equestrian Federation (CEF) Level II coach, Joanne and her spouse, Fred Thornton, operate Cedarbrook Farm, a training facility on Raglan Rd.
