Vol: 130 No. 36 Regatta is set for the long weekend By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star It's Regatta time again this weekend, and organizers have been working hard all year to give you plenty of reasons to make the trip to Caesarea and check it out. New events have been blend- ed with the time-honored activ- ities for kids and adults, and this year's edition of the Regatta -- now in its 64th year -- will take place over four days of the long weekend, said Albert Putsey, president of the - Regatta committee. The Regatta begins Friday night (Aug. 2), and continues until the holiday Monday, Aug. 5, Mr. Putsey said. "We have some new events this year," he said. "People should come out and see what's going on." A new event kicks the Regatta off Friday night when a Grandma and Grandpa con- test is held in Putsey Park. It's open to grandparents of all ages, and judging will be a "surprise", say organizers. A free dance follows in the park that evening. Saturday morning, Aug. 3, there' the annual Gala Fun Parade, which sees boys and girls 11 and under dressing up in their costumes. the parade begins at 10 a.m., and forms up 2 the fire hall. Kids march to the park. Right after the parade, another new activity: A Mutt show, with prizes for pooches in a number of different cate- gories, including largest, small- est, longest and shortest tail, and longest ears.
