| Lady Luck walks out on Merch ™ "A Family Tradition for 130 Years" . The Bantam "Merchants" continued their OASA Zone Eliminations against Campbellford on Thursday, July 16 in Campbellford. The Merchants gave it a valiant . effort to try and even the series but "Lady Luck" was not on. their side as Campbeliford won the game 4-3 and the series. Clay Brown started on the "rubber for the Merchants going 6 2/3 inning facing 32 batters on six hits, six walks, four strikeouts and four field errors. The game was a close contest _ as it was tied 3-3 until the bot- tom of the seventh. Chris Jones came on in relief of Clay with one out and two on in the bot- tom of the seventh and man- aged to extricate the Merchants from that problem. However, the Merchants were unable to push a run across in the top of the eighth and two unfortunate back-to-back errors in the bot- tom of the eighth, resulted in the Campbellford 4-3 win. Chris Jones faced four batters, giving up no hits, no walks, one strikeout and two field errors were recorded. The Merchants only man- aged three hits. Scott Jeffrey smacked a triple to drive in two runs. Chris Jones had a single and registed a RBI. Derek Tindall had the other single. Jim Edwards earned two free passes while Clay Brown, Ryan McBride and Ryan Moynes each earned one. Good try team. The Merchants continued their week with a York-Durham League match against the always tough Stouffville squad and the Stouffville boys pre- vailed with a 7-4 win. Ryan McBride went the distance on the mound facing 35 batters --StoR 3 N A They're eliminated from series ants in Car with 10 hits, three walks, five strikeouts and two on field errors being recorded. The Merchants scattered sixhits (all singles) from the bats of Derek Tindall, Brad Monsma, Chris Jones, Ryan Hawkins, Ryan Moynes and Jim Edwards. Monsma, Jones and Hawkins each had an RBI. Derek-Tindall, Darryl Dalton and Ryan Moynes all earned walks. The Merchants closed out their week when they competed in the Cobourg Tournament. It was a rough day for the boys though as they went 0-3 on the ay. The Merchants had to face Campbellford (again!) in game one and lost 3-0. Chris Jones pitched the curfew-shortened game, facing 24 batters, giving up three hits, three walks, nine . strikeouts and one on-field 7 error. The Mera were quiet though as they 'managed four zs Chris es had two singles while Darry Dalton and Derek Tindall each had one. Michael Versa Derek Tindall, Brad Monsma, Ryan Moynes, and Jir Edwards all had walks. : The Merchants came up against a strong Bramale pitcher in Game two, who with the exception of one batter pitched a perfect game, striking out 15 batters. Chris Jones was the only batter to get on with a double. Analda's defense was led by a fine pop up catch by Justyn Kennedy to end the third inning. Analda Athletics-19 vs. Blackstock Lion's Cubs-6 The long ball led Analda to a 19-6 win in a game played on July 11. Devon Berry had the big hit, a grand slam home run while Cory Clarke and Justyn Kennedy each had a triple and Cody James chipped in with a double. The Cubs welcomed back Nathan Alpe after a season long injury and his presence was felt immedi- ately as he collected a two run RBI double. On the mound pitchers Luke Michel and Sean Taylor pitched well for the Lions. Overridge Fireplace Flames- 14 vs. Black- stock Lions Cubs -7 Overridge maintained their division lead by scor- ing the maximum five runs in the second and third innings as Matthew Ferguson scored three runs on three walks. Vau- ghan Smart had a third in- ning round. tripper and Bryan McNamara contin- ued his strong play hitting a double as well as a triple. Hailey Wright scored twice as did Logan Mal- colm while Kaleb Spang aided the cause scoring one run. Sean Taylor led the Li- ons with some solid pitch- ing as well as collecting two hits. Nathan Alpe on the road to recovery had two RBI's while call up Aa- ron Wright had a fine tyke debut going, hitting a dou- ble. Blackstock Lions Cubs-17 vs. Super Spud Fritters-9 The three hits each by Rina Prendergast and Luke Michel put the Lions into the win column for the first time in the 1996 sea- son. Sean Taylor contin- ued his strong play as he collected two hits and also provided two solid innings pitched. Cory Gerrits led the Fritters batters with a three run RBI triple while Steven Larmer knocked in two runs. Bailey Gould scored twice for Super- spud with Cali Tanner scoring a run. T-BALL Snap-On Giants -20 vs. H&M Wright Sox- 14 An excellent defensive game by Thomas Prender- gast and the six RBI's by Jessie Nelson led the Giants to their win. Jor- dan Bishop had a good game with the bat going three for three. Charlayn Stinson led the Sox with a home run and a double, while Ashley Call and Na- tasha Edgerton had three hits each as well as scoring three runs each. Snap On Tool Giants - 20 vs. Spanky'sHaulage-16 The Giants won their eighth game of the cam- paign as Eric Draper made a triple play and Jenna Finnegan went three for three and had two RBI's and Ryan Ka- minski went two for two with a third inning triple. Thomas Prendergast con- tinued his strong hitting with two homeruns in- cluding a grand slam. Eric Draper also chipped in with two home runs. Spanky'sHaulage-17 VS. Spring Grove Agri- Vaders-15 The third inning home run by Warren Jackson and the three RBI's by Ryan Dillion paced £pank- ys to another win.
